College & Career Family Night

It’s never too early to start thinking about your child’s college and career, and an event planned for Nov. 15 will start the planning process for Pickerington junior high and middle school students and their parents.

The third annual College and Career Family Night will be Thursday, November 15. While the event will be held at Lakeview Junior High, it is for all district junior high and middle school students and their families. The free event will begin at 5 p.m. with pizza, followed at 6 p.m. with our keynote presenter, and then a showcase of informational presentations from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

Parents can register online to attend at https://www.pickerington.k12.oh.us/news/collegecareer2018/.

“The sessions at College and Career Family Night are designed to help build the foundation for families to start seriously thinking about their children’s college and careers,” said Kris Owen, school counselor at Ridgeview.

A highlight of the evening will be our keynote speaker, Professor Kelli Nowlin, with her presentation “College Success Skills 101: A Successful Journey Begins Years Before You Step On Campus.”

Informational sessions would cover a variety of relevant topics, including:

  • What to Expect in Junior High: A Guide for Parents and Students
  • Gifted Third to Eighth Grade
  • High School Pathways
  • NCAA
  • College Preparedness and Preparation
  • Military

Dracula trip rescheduled

The 7th grade class will be going to PHS-Central on Monday, November 5th to see Dracula. This is the rain day make-up from 11/1. Please read and make note of the following details, some of which are different than originally planned:

*ALL 7th grade students will start their day at Central.

Bus riders will be dropped off at Central by their regular buses. The buses will then bring 8th graders, and any 7th grader not attending, to RJHS.

Car riders and walkers must be dropped off by parents at Central HS, on the FRONT / main entrance side, at 7AM.

There will be one shuttle bus for 7th grade walkers who cannot get a ride to the HS.

Students may not ride their bicycles to Central as it presents a safety and security hazard.

Upon arriving at Central, Ridgeview staff will be on hand to direct our students to their designated seating area in the Performing Arts Complex.

After the play, all students will have bus transportation back to Ridgeview in time for lunches and to resume their class schedule.

7th grade students are expected to attend the play. Students who do not attend will be working in a Study hall until their classmates and teachers return.

Daylight Saving Time Ends

Don't forget to set your clocks back one hour on Saturday night!

Lost & Found is piling up

Missing your coat? Did you reach into your pocket and only find that you have ONE glove? Can't see as well without your eyeglasses that seem to have disappeared?

Our lost and found items are really piling up and will soon be donated to charity. Please check the L&F bins in the hallway near Health and Band.

There are small items such as eyeglasses and electronics kept in a locked drawer in the main office. See one of the office staff.

Holiday Assistance

The holiday season will be upon us before we know it, bringing with it all the wonderful memories that make this time of year special. The holidays are an enjoyable time with family and friends, however, that does not mean they are not stressful. We realize some families may need a little extra assistance providing a more memorable holiday for their children. Pickerington Schools are once again teaming up with The Violet Twp. Fire Department to help provide some holiday assistance for families in need during the holiday season.

As you are out and about doing your holiday shopping, you may wish to pick up an extra toy or gift and drop it into one of the big red boxes that will be found throughout the community and in the school buildings. Gift cards and monetary donations are also welcome and should be given to the school office or a counselor.

If you would like to request a form to apply for holiday assistance this season, please contact Eileen McGarvey at 614-548-1700 or eileen_mcgarvey@plsd.us. The request form will then be provided to you; only one request form per household, please. This request will be handled in a confidential manner, however, the information will be shared with local partnering agencies. More details will be shared with families requesting holiday assistance. The forms must be turned in the a PLSD school counselor by Monday, November 19th.

Yearbook Orders

Capture all of the memories of the school year by purchasing a yearbook. Yearbooks are $30, and orders are now being taken online at YEARBOOK ORDERS using order number 13607.
