Issue 17: All About Improvement
ESOL Tip of the Week
We now have 335 English language learners (ELLs) in our building, that is almost 50 percent of our total population! Our ESOL teachers focus on developing these students' English language skills during push-in, pull-out and co-teaching ESOL instruction. However, in order for our ELLs to succeed, they must receive instruction that meets their language needs throughout the school day, in every content area. Luckily, the ESOL teacher at your grade-level is a valuable resource! Be sure to use his or her knowledge to your advantage. During collaborative planning, ask your ESOL teacher about effective strategies for ELLs, or how to modify and scaffold your content instruction to make it accessible to the ELLs in your room.
