Repurposing the World Around Us
Time to start thinking outside the box
Things aren't always what they appear to be!
The Most Important Meal of the Day
This morning we began our week in MAET with an introduction to TPACK, Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge. This educational framework revolves around the idea of finding the proper balance of all three types of knowledge in order to create an engaging and successful learning environment. To demonstrate, we were given the task of creating various breakfast foods. The only catch, we had to select only one kitchen utensil (technology) to use without knowing exactly what breakfast food we were expected to prepare.
Once each group had their utensil we were assigned a food and a nervous laughter took over the room. Almost every single group had a utensil that was not originally designed to create their breakfast dish besides the lucky ladies with the whisk and whipped cream. Groups immediately began thinking of new ways their utensils could be used to complete the task. The take away from this lesson was that more often than not technology needs to be re-purposed to be used effectively in an educational setting.
