A Message From Ms. Barry
Construction on Waverly Downs Way
Greetings Stallions,
We wanted to bring to your attention an upcoming asphalt overlay project notified to us by the City of San Diego. This project is scheduled to take place in the upcoming weeks of December and possibly extend into January. While the project is not anticipated to disrupt our school operations, it is important to note that there may be some delays due to work crews in the vicinity of Waverly Downs Way.
According to information received from the city, our school driveways will remain accessible throughout the project. However, temporary no parking signs will be placed along Waverly Downs Way, and the city will enforce towing for vehicles parked in marked no parking zones. It's essential to be mindful of these signs to avoid any inconvenience.
Additionally, we want to inform you that there might be an impact on our Safety Patrol program during the course of this project.
The asphalt overlay project will unfold in three stages:
1. Concrete scope (expected in the next week)
2. Patching (anticipated within the next week)
3. The actual overlay (scheduled within the next two weeks)
It's important to note that our school district or school does not have control over this project, as it is managed directly by the City of San Diego.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this period.
Ms. Barry
New Information
Attendance Matters
Our school's primary objective is to enhance our daily attendance rates. Students with six or more absences are classified as chronically absent. Following the Winter Break, our school administrators will engage in discussions with families facing chronic absenteeism. We kindly emphasize the importance of scheduling vacations within the 180 days when school is not in session.
Research indicates a significant influence on students' academic and social well-being when they consistently miss school. In 2024, we will introduce incentives for students and classes that consistently exhibit good attendance.
Winter Break
Winter break is December 25th to January 5th. We will see all our Stallions back on January 8th!
Lost and Found
Please check our lost and found before Winter Break. Any clothes or items left after break will be dontated.

PUSD Parent Ambassadors Program
Hello Families of Students served through PUSD Special Education programs and services. I am the new PUSD Parent Engagement Liaison, and I wanted to share my contact information as well as another wonderful resource we offer, the PUSD Parent Ambassadors program.
Parent Ambassadors are parent volunteers who have their own child(ren) accessing special education services through PUSD. They serve as mentors to guide and support parents of children with IEPs or those exploring special education options. Drawing from their own experiences, they offer invaluable insights and advice to encourage collaboration among parents and school staff on behalf of students.
To reach out to a Parent Ambassador, please submit a request through get connected form. TO apply to become a Parent Ambassador, please complete this application form.

Safety Reminders
With fire season upon us we want to assure parents and guardians that we have appropriate response systems in place when emergencies arise. Our first priority will always be the safety of our students and staff on campus.
When Highland Ranch Elementary School becomes aware of any incidents in the geographic area of the school site, we will focus first on the safety of our campus while working with law enforcement, emergency responders, and the District for guidance and support for communication. Communication with parents is part of the response plan, but will be secondary to immediate safety. As soon as we can, we will message families with details of school-wide incidents such as lockdowns or evacuations. Please ensure your contact information is up to date in ParentVue in the “My Account” section.
Finally, we have been asked by first responders to remind our families NOT to come to campus in times of emergency – there have been several instances when officers, firefighters, and their ability to respond to the emergency have been hindered by parents rushing to the scene. We will send out messages about dismissal or reunification procedures for families when first responders indicate it is safe to do so.
Food and Nutrition Updates
School breakfast and school lunch are FREE for all enrolled students, every school day. Meals must still be entered into the cafeteria computer by individual student account.
Even though meals are free, families are still highly encouraged to complete the application for free and reduced-price meal eligibility. School site funding depends in part on the number of students eligible for free/reduced-price meals. Families that qualify for free/reduced-price meals may qualify for other benefits, as well. The meal application is available online at MySchoolApps.com.
Printer-friendly PDF menus are available on the PUSD Food and Nutrition webpage. At the top of the page, click or hover over School Menus + and then Printable PDF Menus.
Interactive, web-based menus containing nutrient and allergen details are available at MySchoolMenus.com, as well as via links from the F&N webpage.
