Principal's Message
Veteran's Day
If you've not read about our school's namesake, Robinson B. Murphy, I encourage you to read this blurb that we have on our website. Long story short, Murphy is one of the youngest Medal of Honor recipients in American history and currently (at least according to my research) the only Medal of Honor recipient from Kendall County.
As we near the observation of this Veteran's Day, we thank all those who are currently serving and those who have served. Additionally, we want to recognize the sacrifice that families make when their loved ones serve our country.
Last week, the State of Illinois released the 2018 school report cards. Murphy Junior High was listed in the second tier of schools and the only "Commendable" junior high in the district. We are proud of our student's accomplishments. But we have plenty of room for improvement.
If you did not review the communications from the district, I encourage you to dive into the indicators that make up the school's designation: Multiple Indicators of Student Success. If you did not review your student's PARCC scores, they were sent home with the student at the beginning of October, please contact the school and we will work to get you a copy.
We fully realize that students are not singular test scores. At the same time we acknowledge the reality that oftentimes schools and communities are summarily designated as good or bad based solely on those test scores. We will continue to work to give all students the best opportunity to demonstrate the breadth of the knowledge on these standardized measures of achievement. We want our students to do their best for themselves and the school. We use the information that we gather from these tests to work to identify areas for improvement in both curriculum and instruction.
If you have questions about our school report card, please reach out to me.
