💫 Character, Citizenship, and Leadership 💫
Our word for November is Citizenship. Check out the video of the month using the button below. We cannot wait to see how our student leaders bring it to life.
🐝 Scripps National Spelling Bee 🐝
All schools have a coordinator and have been registered with Scripps! Coordinators and students will have access to the many excellent resources available from Scripps in the coming days. Coordinators will receive an email providing the next steps.
School-level Spelling Bees should be completed by January 13, 2022, as the District Bee will be the evening of February 7, 2023, at Northern Granville Middle School beginning at 6:00 pm.
📚 Battle of the Books 📚
Battle of the Books began as a Radio show in the 1930s. Today it is an amazing opportunity for students who love to read to showcase their knowledge and understanding of the books they have read for the competition.

👏 School Shout-out 👏
Butner-Stem Middle School
Butner Stem Middle School’s Leadership Club has been hard at work this year with several activities. In the mornings, several Leadership students report the announcements. They enjoy sharing the daily school news with their peers. We also hosted a New Student Breakfast in October and Leadership students mingled with new students during a get-to-know-you Bingo mixer. They helped Mrs. Ward pull names for the drawing and met new students from 6th, 7th, and 8th grade. I am so proud of them for seeking out those students who did not have anyone to talk to and getting to know them! Our Leadership students create a bulletin board for the Character Traits Monthly too. They work together to choose the board plan, create the board and add Falcons to the design. Teachers add names of students who have exhibited those character traits to the Falcons and this year our students decided to reward the teacher who nominated students as well. We hold a drawing each month to see who wins. At their suggestion, BSMS Leadership students held an Art Contest in September for the character trait of Respect. They created the advertisements for the contest and our Art teacher selected 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners. They have been so excited about all of these activities this Fall!
The highlight of our Leadership Club is teaching Character Trait Lessons to Kindergarten students. We visited BSES in October and Leadership students taught the Kindergarteners about respect. Our students selected the lesson and led it from start to finish. They led a circle about what it means to show respect, read stories about respect, and assisted the kindergarten students with creating hats that show ways to give respect. We can’t wait to return in December.
