Inspiring Learners and Empowering Leaders Today and Tomorrow
A HUGE Thank You
Thank you to Mrs. Smeby and all of the many volunteers who made the Book Fair possible. While this is an important fundraiser, it is so much more. All week long, I was fortunate enough to have amazing conversations with students and watch their excitement as they talked about their next read. I loved seeing so many families attend Pie and Cider on Thursday night! We had a full house full of fun and books! It was a great week!!
Safety
There are no issues more important than school safety. Keeping our students and staff safe requires continuous planning, regular practicing, reflecting, and improving.
Did you know that.....
- Endeavour has a safety team that meets to make decisions about processes and structures that need to re-evaluated?
- our staff received training earlier this year from Tim Reeves, the district safety specialist?
- monthly practice drills are held to practice procedures during a variety of emergency situations-fire, shelter in place, earthquake, and lock down?
- that the bond provides for important safety updates that will impact Endeavour directly?
Please help us at arrival and dismissal by doing the following:
- If you drop your student off, please pull as close to the curb as you can. Our safety patrols need to be able to open car doors without stepping off of the curb.
- We continue to see cars parked in the handicapped spots without a placard. Please leave these empty for those who have a legitimate need. We have had several people who have needed those spots but could not park there.
- For safety reasons, ANYONE coming on to our campus at a time other than drop off or pick-up MUST come into the office to get a visitor's pass or a badge. If you are planning on coming to recess, you have to sign in first. Even if you do not plan on getting out of your car, you must sign in first. Just as a reminder , all of our students are protected by privacy laws under FERPA. Videotaping that involves multiple students is illegal.
We welcome volunteers on our campus and want to encourage parent involvement. The above requests are to make sure that our students are always safe. Thank you for partnering with us!
Food Safety
The days prior to winter break bring holiday fun, including 5th grade Marketplace as well as classroom celebrations. It is a good time to clarify the school procedures about outside food that is brought into school. Any food coming into school (outside of individual lunches) is required to be commercially prepared, nut-free, and have nutrition labels. This is a business practice that is exercised around the district for many reasons, primarily health and safety. If food is not commercially prepared, there is a risk of transmitting food-borne illnesses such as Noro-virus, E-coli, and Salmonella to name a few. We have students with life threatening allergies who will experience anaphylaxis if they are exposed to and/or ingest foods. It is imperative that the staff be able to identify all ingredients in the foods served so they can identify possible allergens, and minimize the likelihood of an anaphylactic event.
Anything that is brought in that does not meet the requirements listed above will not be allowed in classrooms. This is never something we want to do. Thank you for making sure all foods meet the guidelines.
Research on Screen Time
This article from the Mayo Clinic details the impact that too much screen time can have on the developing brain as well as some good guidelines for setting limits for children.
