The Compass
Week of August 15, 2022
Navigation Notes
Thank you, Westside Families, for a wonderful first week with our 1st-6th grade Explorers! The students have been learning about our PBIS Expectations of being Safe, Respectful and Responsible, making connections with classmates and their teachers, and beginning to delve into our curriculum.
Please Note for Safety: ALL car riders must come through the SIDE car loop in the mornings. Please do not pull up front and simply let them out of the car. This has been a major safety concern with the traffic up front. You may PARK and WALK your child up to the front doors, however, if you choose to do so. If you are running late, please park and escort your child into the Front Office to sign them in. Doors close at 8:00am.
This week, we are excited to welcome our Kindergarten students (Monday) and our Pre-K students (Wednesday)! Please expect slight delays on these two days for dismissal as parents and students learn their new process.
We appreciated your patience in our car loops last week as we ensured the safety of each child. As you know, the process is getting faster each day with your support. Be sure to have your LIME GREEN car tags out and ready!
*Reminders for Dismissal*
- Please send your child to school with their ReaXium Bus Tag daily.
- Bikers MUST wear helmets to and from school. We also recommend a bike lock to prevent theft.
- Walkers/Bikers will be held and moved to their Rainy Day Plan you indicated at registration in the event of inclement weather.
- FRONT CAR LOOP- PreK, Kindergarten, and 2nd grade OR If the youngest sibling in the family is in one of these grades.
- SIDE CAR LOOP- 1st, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th OR if the youngest sibling in the family is in one of these grades.
- Even if the youngest sibling is absent that day, the other sibling(s) will still dismiss in their normal location.
Our office will be open Monday-Friday from 7:30AM-3:00PM. Please come on in if we can support you in any way.

New KindergartenersThe first day of Kindergarten is Monday, August 15th! Many of our newest Explorers had a wonderful "soft start" last week learning the routines and meeting new friends. Parents are welcome to park and walk their child to the front doors in the morning, but please say your good-byes there. Trustworthy staff members will meet your child at the door and ensure they arrive to their classroom and returned to you at the end of each day. | New PreKThe first day of VPK is Wednesday, August 17th! We are so excited to meet our littlest Explorers on Wednesday. Please follow the directive for drop off provided by Ms. Artman or Ms. Bell, but all VPK will now be picked up in our FRONT car loop in the afternoons. Be sure to have your LIME GREEN car tag ready. Students who do not comply with the policy run the risk of having devices confiscated by administration until end of day or a parent/guardian can come retrieve it. | Dress for Success! Want To Become a Westside Volunteer?
Our BPS safety protocols require any adult on campus during school hours must be a registered volunteer. This includes helping in our classrooms, working with students, participating in our PTO and assisting with special events. We are looking to expand our volunteer program next year and will need as many wonderful and willing adults as possible to support the students and school.
Become A Partner in Education
Westside is looking to grow our community outreach for next year and hope you will be part of this wonderful expansion. Our vision is to enhance student achievement and real-world knowledge through our business partnerships. This could include reading with students, participating in a career presentation, conducting a hands-on learning lesson, starring in a video interview about your business and steps you took to achieve it, and much more.
We hope you will join us in taking Westside to the next level in 2022-2023!
