THE THREE HOOTS
CLASSROOM UPDATE
Learning in Third Grade
Math- Students are learning about perimeter and area. We measured and counted unit squares to find both. We will begin to work on finding the area of combined rectangles and then look at shapes with the same perimeters but different area.
In science we completed our unit on measurement. We have explored telling time to the nearest minute, we are able to figure out elapsed time, we have measured objects to the nearest 1/4 inch, we have used a balance to weigh object to the nearest gram and we have measured liquid using liters! Whew! We also explored what makes flowers bloom in the spring. Your child is so excited to show you their experiment!
The students are becoming very creative writers! It has been fun to read their writings from this week. We have been focusing on grammar and using mentor texts to notice what good writers do. We have been trying out some of these skills in our own writing.
Everyday we continue to practice our multiplication facts and cursive. We are working hard in third grade!
