Phillipe Halsman

"Salvador Dali"

Big image

Background Information

The idea behind of this photo was to capture the artist, his canvas, furniture, cats and water being suspended in the air. The photo is called Atomicus. It's a reference to Dali's work Leda Atomica. It was taken in 1948 inside of Dali's studio. This picture took 28 attempts to actually get it right.

My Opinion

I really enjoy this portrait because it's very unique and surreal. The idea of everything being suspended in the air was just unthinkable during that time. I wouldn't change anything about this picture because in my opinion, it's perfect. Halsman really captured Dali's personality in this picture because he is such a weird and surreal person that it just fit him.
