Reading and Writing
We will begin the year with our Book Clubs Unit in Reading. Students will learn that the stories they read usually have more than one idea and will learn to recognize and write about these ideas.
In writing, we will start with Narrative writing and learn what it means to be the "narrator" of a story and how to become better at the craft of writing.
Math
Thanks for a wonderful first few days of school! We spent time getting to know each other through energizers.
This week students started learning their math chants! It's a fun and catchy way for students to memorize their facts. Knowing their multiplication facts is crucial in 5th grade. They will use their facts to multiply fractions, find common denominators, and compute the standard algorithm with multiplying! Ask your child to recite their chants to you! Shout out to those students who recited their 3's already! Great job!
Dreambox is a great way to personalize your child's math from enrichment through intervention. It develops skills and closes gaps while adapting to the individual learner. Students should have a minimum of 60 minutes a week on Dreambox. Although students get time in class for Dreambox, I encourage them to get at least 20 minutes a night on Dreambox.
