FHS Staff Spotlight
Ms. Megan Darnell -English and much much more!
Megan Darnell is a fourth-year teacher at FHS and this is her seventh year of teaching around Franklin County. She has taught all levels of English at the high school and loves teaching freshmen, especially since she gets to meet and guide the newest members of our FHS family. She loves to learn more about psychology by using her masters in school counseling to co-teach dual-credit Psychology with KSU professor Dr. Joanne Rainey.
Ms. D has two dogs and two cats and loves spending time at home with friends and family, or traveling abroad exploring new countries and world wonders. She also enjoys taking pictures of students involved in school events and sports, even if she knows nothing about the rules and expectations of the games. She loves to hike, kayak, and take part in community events and also helps lead worship in her family church, North Benson.
Ms. D is the Frankfort High School Academic Team coach and the Frankfort School District Archery coach. She welcomes newcomers to both groups and is looking forward to archery starting after Fall Break.

Dual Credit Class NEWS
This Friday Deadline to Drop Course
Dual Credit Students to take Field Trip to KSU
Next Thursday, Sept 13th, all Dual Credit students are invited to attend KSU Orientation Day. We plan to leave FHS around 8:40 and arrive back before 12:30. After we receive the itinerary from KSU, a memo will go out to students.
The cost to attend is being covered by the district, in an effort to allow all Dual Credit Students to experience this field trip.
While we do not know specific details we hope to take a campus tour, a tour of the library and writing center, hear from KSU students about the college experience, eat lunch, and have IDs made for each student attending.
Any questions, please contact Mrs. Harley.
Spirit Week for Football Homecoming set for Sept 24-28
The FHS Pep club will be meeting every Tuesday and Friday until homecoming to make plans. Meet in Mrs. Boggs room at 3:05.
Here are few important things to remember:
- The Pep Club needs convertibles to transport the Homecoming Court during the parade. If you would like to volunteer your convertible (with a driver or not) please contact the Pep Club Sponsor Emily Grimes at emily.grimes@frankfort.kyschools.us or Sara Boggs at sara.boggs@frankfort.kyschools.us. They would need your convertible for Friday from 11:30-1:30.
- Class sponsors will NOT be responsible for assisting students with their floats during school OR after school. This is an activity that must be completed outside of class time and planned by the students. The only time that will be given to students to do ANYTHING with the floats is on Homecoming day about 1 hour before the floats start to line up. So students should be checking with their class officers to find out where and when work will begin on floats. Parents, please help by donating items to help complete the floats.
- Each class is responsible for getting a trailer and a vehicle to pull their float in the parade. Students are not allowed to drive the vehicle or RIDE on any float or in ANY Vehicle. Students will walk next to their float in the parade.
- Dress Up days and Homecoming Dance details to come soon. Keep watching.

National Manufacturing Day
NCI Building Systems is pleased to invite your students to our National Manufacturing Day celebration on Tuesday, October 9, 2018. National Manufacturing Day is an annual event organized by the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) and is supported by thousands of manufacturers across the country. This community event will spotlight the importance of manufacturing to the U.S. economy while introducing future generations to the possibilities offered through manufacturing careers.
Our facility (located at 1099 U.S. 421, Frankfort, KY 40601) will be open to the public from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM. Guided tours will showcase NCI’s innovative manufacturing processes, and our team of trainers will lead educational seminars highlighting safety, lean manufacturing, and business acumen. Keynote speeches from local dignitaries and NCI leadership will offer an exciting glimpse of modern manufacturing and its role within the local economy.
As a proud supporter of National Manufacturing Day, it is our hope that this event will show modern manufacturing for what it is—a technology-driven industry that offers secure careers and economic opportunity to the North Central Kentucky region.

Your Student Snapshot Launches
We are excited to improve our communication to families this year by launching Your Student Snapshot, a text messaging program to keep you informed about your child’s academic coursework and progress in the Summit Learning Platform. We believe that parents are critical partners in supporting our students’ academic goals, and we are happy to provide this service to our families. This program will provide you a better and easier way to start a conversation with your child about school; help you to be informed -- more easily -- about your child’s progress and enable you to more effectively help your child make good decisions about their schoolwork and stay on track.
Your child's RISE mentor needs your cell phone numbers. They will put them in Summit and you will start receiving text messages.
You will receive a text message introducing our Your Student Snapshot program. After that, you’ll receive, on average, 2 text messages per week per child, and the texts will be personalized to your child’s own academic calendar and performance. We hope this will help you keep more up to date on what your child is working on in school and how they are doing academically. You can opt out of the program at any time by replying STOP, after the first introductory message is sent. Learn more about the Your Student Snapshot program.
To participate in the program, we must have a valid cell phone number for you. If you are unsure if you’ve provided one to us, please contact your student's Rise Mentor. The messages are available in English and Spanish. If you prefer to have the messages in Spanish, please let us know so that we can set that preference.

FAQ's from Parents
Why am I getting these messages? How did you get my contact info?
We believe that parents are critical partners in supporting our students’ academic goals. Based on that belief and demand from both parents and teachers on more communications to families about our students academic progress and coursework, we are providing this feature to our families through our partnership with the Summit Learning Platform. We are excited about the opportunity to keep you more informed about your child’s coursework and academic progress, with suggestions and tips on how to support him/her. If you do not want to participate, you can easily opt out of the program by replying "STOP."
If need legal context: In 2016, the Federal Communications Commission stated that schools are permitted to send communications that are closely related to the educational mission of the school or official school activities and for emergencies.
Your school shared the phone number you provided to your school with the Summit Learning Platform team to specifically provide this service to your family. They will not use, sell , or share your contact information with anyone else.
How can I update my contact information in the Platform?
Please visit this article and follow the instructions.
How do I stop receiving messages?
Text “STOP” back to the number that’s messaging you, and you will be removed from any future notifications for all of your children in the Summit Learning Platform.
I unsubscribed / I stopped receiving messages, but I want to subscribe again.
Text “START” back to the number that’s messaging you, and you will be added to any future notifications.
Can I reply to the messages?
Yes, you can reply to the messages, but they are an automated system so no one at our school will be reading them. If you have any questions or concerns about the content of the messages, please tell me or your child’s teacher / mentor.
Can I select which messages I want / don’t want to receive, and the frequency of the messages?
At this time, parents are not able to choose which text messages to receive or the frequency of those messages. The Your Student Snapshot program includes a suite of messages designed to keep you up to date on your students’ coursework and academic progress in a way that supports student growth and self-direction, without overwhelming you.
