Meadow Creek Monday Message
January 19, 2016
Meadow Creek’s mission is to promote learning by challenging all to reach their potential
in a safe, nurturing environment by communicating, collaborating and congratulating!
Thank you!
Friday, January 22
This is our Report Card Day and College Day. If you wear your favorite college shirt or colors, Jeans will look great with that!
The Pizza Food Truck will also be here so be sure you have turned in your order and money to Peggy!
Parent Survey
Thank you for reminding and encouraging your parents to complete the on-line parent survey. Each parent should have received an email with a direct link to the survey. If they did not, they can find it on the HEB Home page. We will be sending out paper copies but would love it if they could take just a minute to complete the new, streamlined survey on line before February 2.
Thank you for your help with this!
Chapter 5: Creating a Strong Classroom Culture
Technique 32: SLANT
No matter how great the lesson is, if the students are not alert, sitting up and actively listening, teaching them is like pouring water into a leaky bucket. We have procedures for many things but we don't often think about how to teach behaviors and skills to help students to concentrate, focus and learn. Five key behaviors that maximize students' ability to pay attention are in the acronym SLANT:
Sit up.
Listen.
Ask and Answer questions.
Nod your head.
Track the speaker.
Using the acronym or a nonverbal signal allows you to reinforce and correct SLANTing without interrupting what you are otherwise doing.

APEX Fun Run Pep Rally
We will kick off the APEX Fun Run with the students on Tuesday, January 19 at 1:45 with a Pep Rally in the gym. We will have 6th and 5th come first and then call all of the other grades to join us in the gym.
Be sure to take a minute after the Pep Rally to talk about who they can ask to make a pledge for their laps and to show the 90 second video about "How to get a pledge."
Remember, the more enthusiastic you are, the better opportunity to raise money for you to spend on your goal!

Transfer Window
The transfer window is now open for students wishing to attend a different HEB than their home school. The window is also now open to apply for our Spanish Immersion program that begins in first grade.
HEB employees who live outside the district and have their children attending an HEB school, must make contact with Liz Richard at 2032 during the transfer window to keep their children in HEB. Out of district employees must do this annually. The window for transfers is Janauray 4 through February 29.
If you would like to transfer to another campus as a teacher or assistant, you should have received an email from HR with the process, the form and the important dates this week.
PTA and the Meadow Creek Yearbook needs pictures!
If you have pictures form events or form things you have done in your classroom this year, PTA would love to use them in the yearbook. Please email any picture's you would like to share to mcyearbook1516@gmail.com.
PTA will be asking you to look at the proof pages for your classroom in the next week or so. Please be sure to match pictures with names, correct spelling and to add anyone new to your class. Thank you for your help!
Reminders...
On CBAs and DBAs, no grades are given to students. We are asked to focus on the students' strengths and weaknesses of skills so no % should be recorded on the test, in the grade book, or sent home to parents. The STAAR Power is a great tool to share with parents.
Please be at your door at 7:45 to greet your students. It is important that you are in your classroom at the start of each day.
