S Studies: Where we live Unit 3- maps and globes
First Grade
Reading: In the month of January, first graders will be learning about folk tales and fairy tales. Students will also learn about elements of poetry.
Writing: 1st Grade students will continue to work on personal narrative writing. They will add more details in the form of adjectives to their writing.
Math: Students will learn strategies to add and subtract numbers to 20. They will use doubles and near doubles, number bonds, and place value.
Science: First graders will be learning about forms of energy that includes: sound, light, and heat. Students will also learn about how magnets can be used to push or pull objects.
Social Studies: Students will be learning about continents and oceans and how they to locate them on a globe.
Lectura: En el mes de enero, los estudiantes de primer grado aprenderán sobre cuentos populares y cuentos de hadas. Los alumnos también aprenderán sobre elementos de la poesía.

Second Grade
Reading: In reading, students will describe the similarities and differences in the plots (problem and solution) and settings of several works by the same author. Students will also describe main characters in works of fiction, including their traits, motivations, and feelings
Writing: In writing, students will write literary texts to express their ideas and feelings about real or imagined people, events, and ideas. Students are expected to write brief stories that include a beginning, middle, and end.
Math: In math, students will begin unit 6: Multiplication Tables of 2, 5, and 10. They are expected to model, create, and describe contextual multiplication and division situations in which equivalent sets of concrete objects are joined and separated. Students will continue learning in Unit 7: Metric Measurement of Length. In this unit students will select and use units to describe length and area.
Social Studies: In social studies, the student will use simple geographic tools such as maps and globes. The student is expected to interpret information on maps and globes using basic map elements such as title, orientation (north, south, east, west), and legend/map keys. Students will also create maps to show places and routes within the home, school, and community.
Science:
In science, student will begin the Magnets unit where they will observe and identify how magnets are used in everyday life. They will continue the month learning about patterns of Movement. In this unit students will trace and compare patterns of movements of objects such as sliding, rolling, and spinning over time.Lectura: en lectura, los estudiantes describirán las similitudes y diferencias en los argumentos (problema y solución) y la configuración de varias obras del mismo autor. Reading: Students be working with Theme and Genre.
Writing: Students will go through the writing process using the steps; circle map, partial flow map, flee map, rough draft, and final draft. We will add to our texts adjectives, pronouns, and conjunctions.
Math: Students will understand financial literacy such as expenses and profit. They will solve problems using these vocabularies.
Science: Students will describe the forms of energy and built an electric circuit.
Social Studies: Students will continue to learn about the Texas Revolution
Lectura: Los estudiantes van a analizar, hacer inferencias y conclusiones sobre texto expositivo y comprobaran sus respuestas con evidencia del texto para avalar su comprensión.
