From the Principal
Dear Mari-Linn Families,
We are finished with week 3 and moving forward to week 4 of Comprehensive Distance Learning. You all are doing such a great job. It appears that most of you have been able to work through the technology bugs. I have been able to go into a few virtual classrooms last week. It is very interesting to see class from the student’s perspective. I am amazed to see the perseverance our students have at working through this new platform.
Recently, the District has upgraded our teachers’ Zoom accounts. This upgrade improves our security measures. However, it requires that students access class through their school email. If your student is using a parent account or a private account, Zoom will not allow them to access the link. If you are having problems getting in with a school email, please notify the teacher or the office.
We are in the process of adjusting our school calendar due to the delayed start of school this year. Our biggest change this quarter is to the month of November. We will still not have school on November 11th, Veteran’s Day. The following are changes for grading and conferences.
November 20th--Early Release-Grading
November 23--No School-Grading and Virtual Conferences
November 24--No School-Virtual Conferences
November 25-27-Thanksgiving Break
LIMITED IN-PERSON LEARNING
We are still waiting for our start date for limited in-person learning. If you indicated that you would like to participate, we will contact you with details as soon as we have a solid plan in place. Thank you for your patience. I know many of you are anxious for your student to have some face time with their teacher.
Mrs. Knox will be sending our order forms for Mari-Linn T-Shirts and sweatshirts. All orders will need to be in no later than November 6th. The company will not be able to print any orders after that date.
PTA GIFT BAGS
The Mari-Linn PTA and Santiam Towing and Recovery (STR) have teamed up to put together a gift bag for every student. The canvas tote bags were designed to commemorate the strength and perseverance of our community. The intention of the gift is to provide a little pick me up for our students and to remind us all that together we can overcome difficult times. Students will be able to get their bags during the Monday Materials pick up (8:00 - 3:00) or during lunch pick up (11:00-12:30) during the week. If those times do not work for you and you would like to get your bag, let me know and we will try to arrange a time.
Please don’t forget that our gym is still open for those needing any items, including clothes, baby items, household goods, toys, books, etc. You can come in Monday-Friday 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. You must stop by the front office and sign in. Our last day for donations will be October 30th. We are not accepting donations at this time.
I want to thank you all of you for sticking with us. We know that the system is not perfect and there have been some hiccups, please know that our staff are working hard and doing their best to deliver effective and high quality instruction. Our staff acknowledges and appreciates the support from families during this time. We know that trying to balance your own work, family responsibilities and virtual learning is weighing heavy on families. Please know that it is absolutely okay if you and your child need a break. Let us know and we will work with you to assure your student doesn’t fall behind.
