Counselor Connection
Morristown West Counseling Dept. Newsletter
April 2020
Staying in Touch...
While school is closed due to COVID-19 concerns, West High counselors are continuing to check e-mails and are working on registration for next year using the information we have available (teacher placement recommendations, previous courses, graduation requirements, etc.). We are not at school, so voice mail messages will not be checked until we return to school. Please reach out to us via e-mail (see very end of newsletter) if you have questions and we'll do our best to help you!
Students, please check your West High student e-mail regularly! This is how your counselor will contact you with questions about registration, scholarships, and other topics. (Please e-mail teachers regarding specific questions about current courses and assignments.)
If a student (under 18 years of age) needs assistance in a mental health emergency situation, you may contact Youth Villages Specialized Crisis Services 24 hours a day at 866-791-9224 for assessment and evaluation. Students who are 18 years of age or over may contact Cherokee Health Systems Crisis Line at 1-800-826-6881 or the Tennessee Statewide Crisis Line 855-CRISIS-1 or (855-274-7471). Resources are also available on the Tennessee Suicide Prevention Network website.

Self-Care Tips
When we face adversity, one of the common things we overlook is self-care. Self-care is simply allowing yourself to be a priority and doing simple activities that can benefit both your physical and mental health. By prioritizing yourself, you will then be more able to recognize your needs and adjust to obstacles that may occur. In times such as these, we all need to participate in self-care so we can be at our strongest and overcome this together.
Registration
Current Dual Enrollment Students
Parents, please check with your child about their progress with dual enrollment classes. Some students have trouble keeping up with the pace of on-line classes and get far behind in a short amount of time.
