Women's Roles During the New Deal

-Eleanor Roosevelt played a major role in FDR's presidency.

-Francis Perkins was the first woman to head an executive department in national govt.

_Women were leaders in many New Deal agencies

Roles of African Americans

-William Hastie became the first ever African American federal judge in history.

-The black cabinet was appointed by FDR to fill in govt. posts.

-FDR felt as if he was at the mercy of southern democrats for voting for him.

Movies During this Era

-Gone With the Wind was released in 1939 and was about people living in the south during the civil war.

-The Wizard of Oz was also released in 1939 and was about a girl who tries to get out of the fantasy world of Oz.

-Movies during the 30's was a short escape from the hardships they faced.

The Radio

-Almost everyone in america by this time had a radio

-The radio broke many restrictions between people in different areas.

-One popular radio show was "Little Orphan Annie"

Music During this era.

-Jazz and swing were popularized during this time, such as singer Louis Armstrong.

-Huddie Ledbetter also helped popularize folk music.

-Babe Ruth's career as a baseball player was coming to an end during the 30's.

-He was soon replaced with Joe DiMaggio
