Volunteers Needed!
We are in need of several volunteers to help with our upcoming Spring Luau & Auction! Volunteers will help with event set-up, registration/check-in, raffle ticket sales, and silent auction support. This is our largest fundraising event of the year, and it’s only possible with the help of volunteers - parents, grandparents, and guardians like you! Need a Baby Sitter? Mrs. Pate has provided us with a list of students that have taken (or are taking) and have passed or are passing Child Development. These students are looking for work and are Mrs. Pate-approved! Some drive, some don’t. Send us a message if you need someone to watch your kids.

Is it Bullying?
At DCD we strive to make sure that everyone feels welcome and included at school. There are so many amazing benefits to attending a small school but there are also challenges when students learn and play together for long periods of time. When conflicts arise it can be difficult to understand and name the behaviors that are happening.
Please take a few minutes to review with your child the differences between when a peer is being rude, mean or a bully. Not every conflict involves bullying and it is helpful to identify the specific situation when problem-solving with a student about their next steps.
Here a few common examples that we are seeing:
Reuben is talking with friends and not paying attention. He bumps into Susan who trips and spills her plate in the cafeteria. Reuben doesn't say anything to Susan and walks away. (RUDE-he didn't do it on purpose but he could have helped the situation by apologizing and helping her)
Alan tells Samuel that he can’t play with the Legos because he is the worst builder in the whole first grade. (MEAN-he knew it would hurt Alan's feelings)
Anna and Christine play on the same soccer team and are normally best friends, but have been in an argument for three days. Anna called Christine a mean name after practice and Christine sent Anna mean text in response. (MEAN)
Theo shares a picture with a group on Snapchat. Many people make negative comments about what he is wearing. (MEAN)
Every time Theo posts on social media Crystal makes comments about how he is stupid and no one likes him. (BULLYING. This is repeated and done intentionally to be hurtful)
