Third Grade News for the month of October.

Math News

We are finishing up our units on problems solving, 3-digit addition and subtraction, and estimating sums and differences. This next grading period we will be working on telling time to the nearest minute. We will solve problems involving time (but NOT elapsed time yet). We will also be working on collecting, organizing, and communicating data through graphs and charts.

Science News

We are finishing up our study of matter and moving into the physical science study of forces, motion, and energy. Students will learn about pushes and pulls and how forces affect matter. We will do several labs involving light energy.

Reading - Language Arts News

Reading: We are continuing Reader's Workshop with a focus on thinking skills (reflection, inferring, visualizing)

Spelling: Long and Short vowels

Writing: Our focus is on using complete, meaningful sentences in building a cohesive paragraph.

Social Studies News

SS: We are continuing on communities with an emphasis on types of communities (rural, urban, suburban).
