Local Economics Field Trip - Mrs. Tobojka's Class
Mrs. Tobojka’s Kindergarten class had the opportunity to go on a Community “Walking” Field Trip making stops at Brooks Free Library, Ruggie’s for lunch and Brooks Park. Map skills, Geography, Civics and Economics were the “focus” standards studied during their two week Community Research Unit prior to the trip.
PE Class with our Harwich Police Officers
From Mr. De La Vega:
Harwich Poilce Officer Brickley and Officer Larivee participated in physcial education classes this week. The officers had a great time interacting with students from Kindergarten through 4th Grade, and the students were excited to have the officers in their classes. The officers favorite game? “Noodle Tag”!

Local Author Jim Cogan Visits Second Grade
Local author Jim Coogan made his annual visit to second graders at HES. He shared his popular children's book "Clarence the Cranberry Who Couldn't Bounce" with students which supported our study of local goods (cranberries) and services. He also shared lots of information about how he became a writer, where he gets his ideas, and even showed us a draft of an upcoming children's book he is working on. Second graders are currently writing their own personal narrative stories, so it was great to see a published author doing the same thing!
Kindness Hats
From Mrs.Cronen:
This week each preschooler at Harwich Elementary received a warm and cozy winter hat knit by Ms. Sandy, a former teacher and resident of West Harwich. We are so fortunate to receive this special act of kindness as we teach our students about the importance of being thankful.
Veterans' Baskets
Thank you to all the students and staff at Harwich Elementary School for a successful Thanksgiving food drive for our local veterans. There were 33 baskets assembled and delivered by Cape Cod Cares for Our Troops to deserving veterans in Harwich and surrounding areas including Truro and Wellfleet. Accompanying each basket was a $10 gift card to help in the purchasing of a turkey. Several gift cards were donated by Shaw's in Harwich and Stop and Shop in Dennis. Thank you for your continued support with this annual event!
