Brentwood is Recognized as Four Star School by Department of Education for 2013-2014
The Indiana Department of Education released their list of 2013-2014 Four Star Schools - and Brentwood Elementary is once again represents Plainfield Schools on this list! This year the list is comprised out of 281 out of 2,068 eligible schools in Indiana.
The eligibility to make Four Star requires that a school be in the 75th percentile or above in two calculations:
1. the combined percentage of students in each grade passing the ISTEP English and Math tests;
2. percentage of individual students in each grade that passed both tests.
Each grade is calculated separately and the school must meet the 75th percentile in both categories in all grades tested.
Additionally, a qualifying school must have earned an "A" in the state's accountability system and be accredited by the Indiana Department of Education.

Students of the Week
4th Grade WRE Closing Program
Value of the Month Student ~ April ~ "Respect for Environment"
Staff MVP of the Week ~ Mrs. Natalie Honegger, Art Teacher
Mrs. Honegger has been at Brentwood for 9 years (5 of those she split her time between here and Central Elementary). She grew up and went to school in a small northern town called Chesterton, Indiana. It is right on Lake Michigan. During the summer she used to ride her bike and hang out at the beach. "Sometimes we would bring cardboard and sled down the sand dunes in the summer and used regular sleds in the winter!" After high school, Mrs. Honegger received her teaching degree from Purdue University.
Mrs. Honegger and her husband, Isaac (a 4th grade teacher at IPS) have 2 cats who are brothers named Vincent (after Vincent VanGogh of course!) and Jafar (named after the character in Aladdin). "I have a beautiful daughter, Amelia who is 7 1/2 months old and is the best thing that has ever happened to me!"
Mrs. Honegger's Favorites:
Color- purple
Movie-A League of Their Own
TV Show-Game of Thrones
Book-Hunger Games
Music-Jam Bands
Flower-Daisy
Restaurant-Anywhere that serves steak
Candy-skittles
What do you enjoy doing when you aren't teaching? "Hanging out with my baby and husband, going to concerts, and doing art."
Where is the most interesting place you have been? Jamaica, it is so beautiful there and it made me appreciate what we have here in the US so much more.
What is a teacher/student moment you remember fondly? There have been so many but one that happened this year was receiving a Rose Award from a student. It made me feel so special!
As a parent and teacher, what advice do you have for parents on how they can be involved in their child’s education? "Volunteer in the classroom if you can. If you can't, be aware of what they are doing at school. Show interest in what they are doing by asking more specific questions instead of the general, "what did you do at school today?".
***On a personal note...***
News from Mrs. Honegger, "I am very sad to leave Brentwood next year. It has been my home for 9 years and I am going to miss it so much! But I am very excited to start a new chapter at the Plainfield Community Middle School. The best part is that I will eventually see all my students again soon!"
Thank you for teaching the love of art to Brentwood students for nine years Mrs. Honegger. You will always have a home here, and we will miss you dearly!
Longtime friend and colleague, Mrs. Eakes had the following to say about Natalie: "Mrs. Honegger is a valued Special Area team member. I'm lucky to have her on my team! She has a love of art and passes that appreciation on to our students. She is creative in her teaching. She regularly implements math and language standards to her art lessons. Mrs. Honegger does amazing projects with our students and displays the works of art for all to see. Mrs. Honegger encourages students to do their best in the classroom as well as in art class. She is helpful, enthusiastic and truly exhibits compassion and concern for all students. Mrs. Honegger has a great sense of humor and is always fun to be around!"

Transportation & Dismissal Info
All car riders arriving in the morning should be dropped off in our car rider lane NOT in our Visitor Parking lot. This ensures they are not crossing over any traffic. If you child is being dropped off late an adult must come into the office with them to sign them in.
If your child rides the bus to school and will be eating breakfast in the cafeteria please talk to them about going straight to the cafeteria to get their breakfast. This will give them the most time to eat a healthy breakfast possible.
Dismissal Changes:
- If you need to change your child's dismissal instructions the best way to do this is to send a signed note into your child's teacher.
- If this is impossible please call the office NO LATER THAN 3:00 p.m. to ensure the dismissal change gets to your child's teacher in a timely matter.
Transportation:
If you are permanently changing how your child goes home or if you move please notify our office at 317-839-4802, as well as Transportation at 317-838-3632, and submit a new Transportation Form to the office.
