Welcome to December!

There are many things happening in December, most especially the HOUR OF CODE Week December 8-12.

Sign up to come into one of the computer labs and invite me, Sagui, or Linda. We'll support you in the Hour of Code activities on the website. Or let us know if you'll be engaging in some activities in your classrooms.

New this year... Frozen's Elsa and Anna inspire a coding project. "Let's use code to join Anna and Elsa as they explore the magic and beauty of ice. You will create snowflakes and patterns as you ice-skate and make a winter wonderland that you can then share with your friends!"

In addition, here are 11 coding resources for you and your students to explore.

The Hour of Code activities are not just for students. Try them yourselves, communicate with parents, pass them along after using in class for continued learning at home!

New Updates to Google Tools, Just Announced!

Adding slide numbers in Google Slides:

People using Google Slides can now add slide numbers to their presentations, providing a reference guide for both presenters and audiences. To add slide numbers, go to Insert > Slide numbers from the toolbar. You can then choose to apply slide numbers to all slides or selected slides.

Adjust Image Color and Filters in Google Docs:

To use this feature, select an image in Google Docs and click the Image options button in the toolbar (you can also right click on the image, or use the Format menu, and select Image options). Under "Recolor," you can change the color of your image to match your presentation. Under "Adjustments," you can change the transparency, brightness, and contrast of the image.

Table Merging in Google Docs (finally!):

This adds the ability to merge the cells of a table in Google Docs. Merged table cells can span more than one row and/or column. To merge table cells, highlight the cells to be merged in your table and select Merge cells from the Table menu (or right click and select Merge cells). Merged table cells in Word documents can now be imported as well.

The Magic Moment

A few teachers have recently asked about Flubaroo, Flubaroo is a free tool that helps you quickly grade multiple-choice or fill-in-blank assignments. This might be a great way to utilize Google forms for formative assessments in preparation for SBAC, or for any other instructional activity.

Here are some resources about Flubaroo, which is a free add-on in Sheets. Get in touch with Bonnie or Sagui for assistance.

Welcome to Flubaroo
