The Boerne ISD Board of Trustees held their regular monthly meeting in the BISD Board Room on Monday, August 16th, 2021.
Board Commendations
The Board commended Boerne ISD students and staff, as well as celebrated district-wide honors. Below are some of the honorees.
Boerne High School Athletic Department
The Greyhounds won the 2021 Dan Cook Cup as the best overall high school sports program in the greater San Antonio area.
The Greyhound teams excelled last season, with the Boys Soccer Team winning the 2021 State Championship, the Tennis Team earning a state silver medal, the Boys and Girls Basketball Teams advancing to the Final Four, among many others.
Congratulations on your continued success!
CHS Track National Champions
Champion Track and Field Athletes Chachi Gonzales and Brock Lewis earned Gold Medals at the AAU Junior Olympics track and field championships earlier this month.
Senior Chachi Gonzales set a national record and placed first in the 1,500-meter race with a time of 4:22.89.
Sophomore Brock Lewis won the National Championship in the Decathlon with a total score of 6,767 points.
Congratulations! We are proud of you!
CHS Swim Team All-Americans
The Champion High School Swim Team 200 freestyle relay team of Paige Clark, Regan Garcia, Tess Ziemba, and Peyton Brehmer swam a 1:36.92 at the UIL 5A State Championships, setting a new school record and winning the 2021 State Championship.
This time has earned them the recognition of an All-American relay by the National Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association. This means that they are a top 100 time in the nation for that specific event.
Congratulations to these four swimmers for such a phenomenal accomplishment!
Judge Michelle Van Stavern
Judge Michelle Van Stavern has been named 2020-21 Texas Association of School Resource Officers SRO of the Year.
Judge Van Stavern served as the SRO at Boerne Middle School North for the past three years prior to being named Kendall County Justice of the Peace Pct. 1.
We appreciate Judge Van Stavern’s service to Boerne ISD and Kendall County.
Congratulations!
Michael Gillette and Kim Grosenbacher (CHS Teachers)
Champion Social Studies Teacher Michael Gillette earned the 2021 Outstanding Teaching of the Humanities Award from Humanities Texas. This award recognizes exemplary contributions of humanities teachers in Texas Elementary, Middle, and High Schools.

Champion U.S history teacher Kim Grosenbacher was named the 2020-21 Association of Texas Professional Educators Secondary Teacher of the Year!
In 2015, she was selected as the James Madison Fellow award winner for the state of Texas. She has won numerous teaching awards and was previously named the social studies teacher of the year by the Legal Digest.
The goal of the James Madison Fellowship is to help secondary level history, government, and civics teachers to become outstanding educators of the U.S. Constitution. The medals that both Kim and Michael are wearing signify the James Madison Fellowship.

Each year TASBT holds the Texas Best Competition in the form of a skills challenge for technicians and inspectors in the school bus industry.

Congratulations!

Superintendent's Report
-We currently have 10,206 students enrolled, with 55 additional students pending.
-The enrollment goal for BISD to reach by October was 10,137, and we have already reached that goal.
-BISD has gained 722 students since the first day of school last year.
-Due to the record-breaking enrollment BISD is no longer a recapture, or "Robin Hood" district. In recent years BISD paid over $100 million of taxpayer dollars to the state due to recapture.
-We have formed a long-range steering committee to look at growth and how we can best manage that growth in the future.
-During the first two weeks of school there are always adjustments that need to be made relating to class size, bus routes, and traffic. We are looking into adjustments that may include resizing classes, changing bus routes, and working with Tx DOT on traffic issues.
-We have implemented Remote Conferencing, which allows us to serve COVID-positive students, students in quarantine, or students who are out for other ailments. Students who are assigned to Remote Conferencing receive four hours of instruction per day.
-We are not able to provide virtual instruction at this time as it is not funded by the state. We simply cannot afford to provide virtual instruction at this point.
-Once again, all Boerne and Champion home football games will be live-streamed on the Greyhounds and Chargers Sports Networks.
