SHMS Weekly Info
March 30th to April 3rd
Good Evening Stone Hill Students, Parents, and Staff,
I hope that everyone in our community is doing well and staying healthy. I know that this week has been exceptionally challenging with the Governor's announcement that schools will be closed for the remainder of this school year. It is important to know that just because the physical building might be closed, we are going to stay in touch and do our best to keep our community connected. Please see information below for how LCPS is moving forward with Continuity of Learning starting tomorrow, Monday March 30th.
LCPS will continue to provide student meals, but only at specific locations. As of March 23rd Stone Hill Middle School is no longer a site serving meals. Rock Ridge High School, Independence High School, and Briar Woods High School are some of the many local schools that are available for meal pick-up weekdays from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Students can receive two meals daily (a breakfast and a lunch) and can choose to take both meals simultaneously.
If you or your family are in need of anything, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly. Our community is here to support anyone in need during this challenging and unusual time. Please see information below from our Parent Liaison on how you can donate and help support families in need.
Continuity of Education
As laid out above, teachers will begin providing online learning experiences specifically for their students covering previously covered skills and knowledge beginning tomorrow, March 30th. For more information, please reference the LCPS Continuity of Learning Frequently Asked Questions for students document. All teachers should be providing work up to 30 mins per day per class or about 150 minutes per class per week.
Teachers are expected to be providing hyperdocs through Google Classroom, responding to emails and Google Classroom comments within 24 hours, posting updates to the Classroom Stream, and providing meaningful feedback to students as assignments are submitted via Google Classroom.
At this time there are no grades being assigned as this learning is covering previously covered skills, but teachers will be providing formative feedback to students on their learning. As announced in the message from LCPS to the community on Friday, March 27th, teachers will begin providing new content starting on April 15th. More information will be forthcoming regarding the roll out of new content.
Please continue to monitor your email from LCPS to ensure that you receive the most recent information regarding learning opportunities for our students. Please continue to visit the LCPS COVID-19 Preparedness at LCPS website for the most up to date information.

April PBIS Word of the Month
Parent Liaison Information
Mobile Hope, whose mission is to improve the lives of young people, 24 years of age or younger, who are precariously housed or homeless in Loudoun County. Mobile Hope will continue to focus on collecting food and hygiene products and distributing them into neighborhoods starting Monday, March 16. Their bus will pull into the neighborhoods, and honk its horn, signaling to students that breakfast and lunch items are available. The project name is Listen For the Honk. Mobile Hope is committed to this program throughout the duration of the school closure. The need for food donations remains great, as this project will run at least through March 27 based on the latest announcement. If you would like to donate food, you may bring it to their facility at 741 Miller Drive in Leesburg, or send it through their Amazon wishlist. If you would like to donate financially, you may donate through Facebook or their website, www.mobilehopeloudoun.org.
Loudoun Hunger Relief provides fresh groceries for the whole family, plus they can help find further assistance to meet other needs through their network of partners. They will continue their regular hours for distribution, and add more hours as well as a mobile market to reach out into the community and be more accessible. Please go to https://www.loudounhunger.org to find out how you can donate or help.
Finally, if you would prefer to donate a grocery or Walmart gift card directly to the school for use with our families please contact me (email@example.com) and we will work out a way to get that from you. Thank you for always stepping up when asked and for being such a "Ray of Light" in our school community. Please reach out with any questions or concerns and I will do my best to answer them for you. Until then, be well, and wash those hands!
