KINDERGARTEN
This week kindergarten is taking their I-ready reading diagnostics, and next week we will be taking out math diagnostics. We have been learning about Holidays Around The World and doing some fun crafts to go along with our learning. We have a lot of fun winter activities coming up in the next couple weeks. Please keep an eye out for letters coming home about all the exciting winter themed activities we will be doing in kindergarten.
The cool mornings are finally here. Kindergarten teachers want to remind parents to please make sure all jackets are labeled with your child's first and last name. Lot’s of jackets get misplaced and we want to make sure we can get them found and returned.

Welcome back Second Grade! We hope you all had a great Thanksgiving Break!
Please remember to have your student bring a jacket for the cool weather in the mornings. Please remember if the jackets are NOT school dress code they may not wear them inside.
This week in Ms. Volden’s science class we have begun learning about the different forms of energy. Students will create a solar oven next week to conclude the unit! In reading, students have reviewed story structure with our week’s story titled Mr. Tanen’s Tie Trouble. Students focused on inferring character actions and character point of view.
We look forward to having many fun wintertime activities soon before winter break. Please make sure to look out for upcoming emails from your student’s teachers soon!

We completed 2 weeks of basketball. The students were excellent at playing it and displaying sportsmanship!
In Ms. Finsterle’s ELA class students focused on an argumentative essay all week. On Monday students answered the question, “What do you think is the biggest issue for young people today?” Students displayed their answers around the classroom and then continued the lesson by writing an argumentative essay throughout the week. Rough drafts for their essays will be due on Monday.

CONTEST AND CHALLENGES
MU ALPHA THETA MATH COMPETITON
The Mu Alpha Theta Mathematics Honor Society of Orlando Science High School invites all 4th and 5th grade Central Florida students to compete at the Central Florida Math Tournament (CFMT), which is to be held on December 11th, 2021.
Registration is now open. If you would like to register your student for this year's Invitational, visit the registration page and fill out the online form with your student's information.
Registration must be completed online by the end of December 7th, 2021. The registration fee is $25 for each student and should be paid online via School Pay. The competition is open to first 60 students from 4th grade and first 60 students from 5th grade.
The competition will take place at Orlando Science Elementary School campus which is located at 2601 Technology Drive, Orlando FL 32804.
We encourage all schools to participate, regardless of whether they currently have math teams or not. In Competition Math, any topics can and do arise. There are no guidelines or hints about how to solve the problems, so it truly is an opportunity to express and develop individual creativity and problem-solving skills. However, in order to prepare your students, you may look at the past years’ questions.
We hope you will find this competition a rewarding mathematical experience for your students, and we look forward to your participation at our Invitational on December 11th.
