MoES Newsletter
May/June 2021
Dear MoES Families
On May 17th we will be bringing students back to school based on the April survey results. If you did not complete the survey in April then your child will continue in their current setting: virtual, cohort A, cohort B, or our PreK/K model. No additional students will change their current cohort or virtual instruction setting for the remainder of the year. This is just in response to the April survey. Some students will be coming into school now 4 days a week, some will be added to the cohort A and cohort B groups and others will remain virtual. A letter will be sent home by the end of this week detailing your child's class, schedule, and what to expect IF there is a change in how they will receive instruction. In addition, we will be calling those families who completed the survey to communicate the change, or to notify you if we are unable to meet the request at this time. Please be on the look out for these very important messages.
From May 3rd - May 7th we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week. We are blessed to have the most phenomenal group of teachers any school could ask for. They love your child, work tirelessly to meet the changing demands of teaching through the pandemic, remain flexible, are reflective in their practices, and always strive to create an environment where your child can be loved and excel. Please share your gratitude with your child's teacher. A kind word never goes unnoticed and is just what they need. This year has been challenging on everyone, and our staff has done everything in their power and ability to meet the demands to provide the best care and support for your child. Thank you to my heroes, our teachers!
Please be on the look out for a VERY important survey from FCPS prior to the end of the school year. This survey will have you indicate if your child will be returning to MoES 5 days a week in person next school year, or if you want your child to attend virtual school 5 days a week next school year. This is vital in planning and aligning you desires to the services we provide your child.
See below for additional details on: calendars updates, 5th grade promotion, registration of prek/k students for 2021-2022 school year, and our Family Transition Night.
I appreciate YOU!
Troy Barnes,
Principal

Early Childhood Registration
Pre Kindergarten and Kindergarten Registration
Registration Begins April 6th!!! Please help to spread the word to neighbors, families, and friends in our school zone.
Pre Kindergarten:
FCPS offers pre-kindergarten to all students eligible for free or reduced-price meals. To enter Pre-K, a child must turn 4 years old on or before September 1 of a given year. Applications are available at all elementary schools; registration begins in March. Enrollment is limited. More information on pre-kindergarten is available here.
If you are planning to enroll your child with automatic priority status based on free or reduced-price meal eligibility, you will need to submit ONE of these: three consecutive pay stubs from the past six months OR a W2 form showing the prior year's earnings OR a letter from an employer or social services agency (on letterhead) stating the applicant's family income OR foster care documentation.
Bus service is provided to Pre-K students eligible for transportation under FCPS Policy 441 who live in the attendance area of schools where classes are offered. Parents are responsible for the transportation of students whose walking route to and from the school is 1.25 miles or less or who live outside the attendance area of the school where the classes are held.
Kindergarten:
All FCPS kindergarten programs are full day, most starting at 9 a.m. and dismissing around 3:30 p.m. To enter kindergarten in August, a child must turn 5 years old on or before September 1 of that calendar year. Children entering first grade must have completed public kindergarten or have been approved for entry by FCPS. Whenever possible, parents are encouraged to register their children well in advance of the first day of school so that schools and teachers are prepared to accommodate enrollment.
Parents who do not wish to enroll a 5-year-old in a kindergarten or other approved program may request a 1-year waiver (Waiver Form | Waiver Form in Spanish). At the end of the waiver year, the student will enter kindergarten rather than first grade. ECE Office will accept K Waiver Forms for the next school year starting on April 1st of the current school year.
Student Enrollment
FCPS provides free public education to eligible Frederick County students ages 4-21. Students are assigned to schools based on their home location. Children who attend a childcare center may attend the school that serves the center unless that school is restricted to out-of-district students due to overcrowding or is in its first year of operation (here's the latest Restricted Schools List).
To Register
To register, first identify which school your child will attend (here's a link to find your local school). You will then need to visit our online enrollment portal (English / Spanish) where you can complete an online enrollment in a secure, virtual environment.
You need to provide the following information to your child's school
- Enrollment Form Template: English | Spanish. Visit our online enrollment portal (English / Spanish) where you can complete an online enrollment in a secure, virtual environment
- Immunization and health records, provide BOTH of the following:
- Department of Health and Mental Hygiene form 896 Immunization Certificate or other proof of immunizations (view the complete immunization schedule here), and
- Documentation of a recent physical exam, recorded on the Maryland Schools Record of Physical Examination. If your child's last physical exam was more than 9 months prior to the start of school, you may wait to submit the form until this year's exam is completed.
- Proof of date of birth (provide one of these: Birth certificate, physician's certificate, hospital certificate, baptismal or church certificate, parent's affidavit, or passport/visa)
- Proof of residency (provide one of these: current property tax bill, current rental bill, current utility bill for water, gas, or electric)
- Parent photo identification
May 26th 6:00 - 7:30 Transition Night
In addition, there will be sessions held with our Team Student Success Team on social emotional learning and regulation. Mr. Gunter from the Middle School will also be available for a Google Meet with our 5th graders entering 6th grade next year. Mr. Barnes and Mrs. Roche will provide a question and answer session to respond to you with additional details and information as it relates to your needs.
Finally, all participants will receive a summer activity packet. This packet will be engaging and allow your child to stay sharp and fresh over the summer with their learning.
Please Complete the RSVP form by May 20th so that we can prepare.

5th Grade Promotion Ceremony
Our WONDERFUL PTA is planning a special recognition of our 5th graders on June 10th at 4:00pm (rain date June 17th at 4:00pm). Students will receive their class t-shirts at this time and you will be able to take a picture on the bridge of your child with administration. Masks must be worn by everyone and 6 feet of socially distancing must occur between families in attendance. Details about this event will be forthcoming, so be on the look out.
