Principal's Message
Dear Baywood Parents,
Every year, our 3rd-5th graders at Baywood participate in CA State Testing, or the SBAC. This testing is one important measure of your child's academic performance and progress in academic areas of reading, writing and math, as well as learning skills such as persistence, synthesizing information, research skills, and more. It is also one important measure of our school's progress in these areas, and gives us great feedback on our programs. Last year, we saw great progress in all areas for our students.
Our 3rd-5th graders start their SBAC state testing next week. Please support your student & Baywood in being successful by ensuring a good night's rest, healthy breakfast and daily attendance. Please plan Dr. appts. etc around these dates. Thank you for your support of our school! SBAC State Testing Dates: 4/17, 4/18, 4/24, 4/25, 5/1, 5/2, 5/8. 5th grade also has a Science test on 5/9 & 5/10.
While these tests do matter and measure many important things, I'd like to also share this with you... There are many (very important!) things that tests can't accurately measure. Such as-
- A test can't measure the compassion that shines in the eyes of a child caring for a chick that has fallen from its nest
- A test can't measure the generosity shown by a boy who gives his birthday money to the homeless man on the corner
- A test can't measure the creativity that has been poured into every piece of artwork that hangs on the refrigerator
- A test can't measure the joy a little girl feels while slow dancing on her daddy's feet after dinner
- A test can't measure the determination it takes for a child with reading difficulties to complete just one reading assignment
- A test can't measure the love that is wrapped up in the warmth of a child's embrace
Children everywhere deserve to know this - You are not your test score, you are so much more! Again, while important, a test is one measure of a student's skills.
Best,
Mrs. Jennifer Dinielli
