BRIDGE VALLEY'S NEWSLETTER
August 15, 2019
WELCOME BACK TRAILBLAZERS
We are looking forward to a great new school year! This year will provide students with academic challenge and personal growth. The development of the whole child continues to be a core principle of the Bridge Valley mission.
Academically, a major focus will be the transition to the new Math in Focus program. Our teachers have been involved in training this past year and throughout the summer to prepare for the start of school. Training, reflection, and refinement will continue throughout 2019 and 2020.
We will continue to promote inclusion and celebrate diversity. We will also teach students to view diversity as not just differences in culture, but in various characteristics that make each person a unique individual to be celebrated.
SEW (Social and Emotional Wellness) will also continue to be a priority. Our teachers and staff will work to develop students' social and self awareness, responsible decision making, and relationship building skills.
Prepare for a fantastic year! We are excited to see the kids soon.

2019-2020 Bridge Valley Parent and Student Handbook

We hope you will find this to be a valuable resource!
Immunization Reminder
The Pennsylvania Department of Health has revised the immunization requirements for students effective the 2017 - 2018 school year. This revision replaces the 8-month provisional period for immunizations with the new requirement of a 5-day provisional period.
Prior to August 2017, a parent had 8 months to complete all required immunizations. This is called provisional enrollment. As of August 2017, a parent must have all immunizations completed within the first 5 days of school.
Children in ALL grades (K-12) need the following immunizations for attendance:
4 doses of tetanus, diphtheria and acellular pertussis (1 dose on or after 4th birthday) (DTaP)
4 doses of polio (4th dose on or after 4th birthday and at least 6 months after previous dose given) (IPV)
2 doses of measles, mumps and rubella (MMR)
3 doses of hepatitis B (Hep B)
2 doses of varicella (chickenpox) or evidence of immunity (History of chickenpox or antibody titer)
BEGINNING OF SCHOOL YEAR INFORMATION
Opening Days
During the first few days of school, we understand that some students would feel more comfortable if their parents walked them to the classroom; however, our security protocol does not allow for this accommodation. We will have a number of smiling and friendly staff members at our front doors to assist reluctant children. If you must escort your child(ren) to the classroom, you are required to pass through the office to obtain a clearance and badge.
There will also be additional volunteers and staff members assisting students who ride the bus. If your children are in kindergarten or first grade, encourage them to look for a "balloon helper". These adults will be holding brightly colored balloons and will guide children to their classrooms.
We hope that these procedures will enable your child to have a smooth and successful start to his/her school year!
Back to School Information Guide
Look for a back-to-school general information sheet to come home with your child on Tuesday, September 3rd. Additionally, the first Thursday folder will come home on Thursday, September 5th. Each of these sheets contain important and time sensitive material.
