Believe...Growth Mindset for Student Success!
Our School Vision
Knight Vision: To share in the commitment of rigorous and high quality instruction to meet the needs of every child.
Our 2017-2018 school theme “Believe...Growth Mindset for Student Success!” is directly aligned with our continued vision and instructional expectations for Knight: to share in the commitment of rigorous and high quality instruction to meet the needs of every child.
Instructional Focus:
*Implement the AKS (Common Mini-Lessons and Assessments)
*Implement Authentic Literacy (Purposeful Reading, Writing, and Discussion)
*Implement Effective Instruction (Workshop Model/Gradual Release)
Knight Mission: To provide a positive, stimulating, and secure environment that empowers the individual to grow socially, emotionally and intellectually in order to meet the challenges of an ever-changing world.
Knight Belief: We believe all kids can learn…
…and we will establish high standards of learning that we expect all students to achieve. It is our job to create an environment in our classrooms that engages students in academic work that results in a high level of achievement. We are confident that with our support and help, students can master challenging curricula, and we expect them to do so. We are prepared to work collaboratively with colleagues, students and parents to achieve this shared educational purpose (DuFour, 1997a).
Thank you, Michele Brown!
WISE
Have you heard about WISE? WISE is an inquiry research model that includes the following components: Wonder, Investigate, Synthesize, and Express. These components incorporate reading, research and technology indicators that encourage student engagement, collaborative learning, and critical thinking skills. Rachel Storey, our technology teacher, is implementing the WISE model with fourth and fifth grade students through integration with social studies topics. If you would like to learn more about the WISE model, please contact our media specialist, Jennifer Brown. Ms. Brown will be happy to help you acquire new learning - the WISE Model!

PBIS Thoughts
This week, we're spotlighting a great use of morning meeting time. Becca Reynolds, 3rd grade teacher, placed a number of different words around the room - art, science, math, sports, etc. Each child went to stand next to the word they felt was their strength, and then the rest of the class told that child why they felt it was an accurate strength for them. This helps kids know that they're good at something. Even if academics is not what makes them feel comfortable, there is some place they feel great. Take a few minutes to discuss with your kids what makes them great. What is their strength and why?
Way to go, Ms. Reynolds!
