WordMaster and Noetic Math Contests
Both the WordMaster and Noetic Math Contests are in full swing! We had some great results from the first rounds of both competitions.
In the WordMaster Challenge, both the 5th and 6th grade teams made the Top 10 list nationally! You can see the full lists of winning teams by clicking on this link: WordMaster results. Please note that you will need to scroll down to the "G" or "Gold" division to see our team results. Awards for this competition will be given at the end of the year.
In the Noetic Math Contest, both the 4th and 6th grade teams earned a Team Recognition award for being in the top 10% of teams nationally. Several individuals also earned Team Winner awards (highest score on their team), National Honor Roll medals (top 10% nationally), and Honorable Mention certificates (top 50% nationally). (see picture below of our individual award winners!) The full list of results can be found by clicking on this link: Noetic Math results.
The next WordMaster test will be in mid-February, and the final WordMaster and Noetic tests will be in April. WordMaster participants have received their new word lists (which can also be accessed through my website at mrsediger.weebly.com), and Noetic practice problems will be shared as we get closer to April.

Upcoming HAL project: littleBits
This quarter, the HAL students will be working with littleBits. LittleBits are electronic building blocks that can be used to build inventions. We were able to purchase these kits as a result of a grant that was awarded to our HAL teachers through NETA (Nebraska Educational Technology Association). For more information about littleBits, visit their website at http://littlebits.cc/. This will be a fantastic opportunity for students to take ownership in their creativity, problem solving skills, cooperative learning, and so much more. I can't wait to see them grow!
