A Resource for Families, Week of May 11th
Dear Families,
Our learning focus this week is on HEROES and the character trait of PERSEVERANCE! We know distance learning is becoming harder for some children and families. The novelty has worn off for many. Our hope is that this topic is both engaging and encouraging for everyone!
It was wonderful to see so many more of our library books going into the hands of our children this week - right where they belong! We had over 140 families come to check out books at our curbside library. Remember there is an online book fair continuing this week through Friday. If you would like to purchase books, you can click HERE to go to the online shop, and they will be delivered to your home. More details are on the Library's Enrichment Page.
We hope to have information for you soon about how you can pick up any of your child's personal items that may be in the school building. We are working closely with our Facilities Director to come up with a plan that ensures our buildings can continue to be clean and safe while still returning your child's belongings.
New This Week: Be sure to check out Mr. Schmidt's Enrichment Connection for a new breakout activity for children to explore. Each week, they will get new clues to solve a mystery. Breakout activities create ultra-engaging learning games for people of all ages. Games (Breakouts) teach teamwork, problem solving, critical thinking, and troubleshooting by presenting participants with challenges that ignite their natural drive to problem-solve.
Children can see the introduction video on Mr. Schmidt's site or by clicking HERE. They have to sign up to receive the weekly clues by clicking HERE. The event begins Monday but children are welcome to join at any time.
Families of Second Grade Children:
If your child is interested in learning how to play the violin, viola, or cello next year, please click HERE for more information about the program and to indicate your child's interest.
Families of Third Grade Children:
Due to the school closure, the 4th Grade Orientation originally scheduled in March was cancelled. If you would like to review the information that would have been included in the presentation, please click HERE. Kevin Swartz, principal of Victor Intermediate School, has also made a welcome video you can view by clicking HERE. It is certainly bittersweet to think about this. We will miss our third grade children so much next year but are always excited for their new adventures and learning!
AND...
One of our music teachers, Mrs. Lowe, will be posting several optional recorder lessons for third grade children, beginning on May 18th. If your child is interested in learning how to play the recorder, please click HERE for more information about the online recorded lessons and where to purchase a recorder if your child does not already have one.
As always, please let us know if we can help in any way. We are grateful for our work together!!
With Great Appreciation,
Jen Check
Principal, Victor Primary School
