Dear Allen Families,

What a busy and amazing week we had. I would like to thank all of the families that came out and joined us for our PTA Family Academic Night this week. It was great seeing our families working together in educational activities that they can take home with them.

We also officially kicked off our PTA Fun Run donation drive this week. Students were treated to an exciting pep rally to get them motivated for the Fun Run day and for raising money for our PTA. Thank you to all of you that have already registered your child for the Fun Run. Our goal is raise $6,000 for our PTA. These funds will go towards field trips and student activities on campus. We have approximately met 40% of our goal. Please read further down in the bulletin for more information regarding the Fun Run.

Finally, I would like to thank all of our Veterans that joined us for our Veterans Day Assembly. We thank them first and foremost for their service to our country, but also would like to thank them for taking time out of their schedules for our students to honor them while learning a little more about Vetarans Day. Thank you to Ms. Gonzalez and the Science and Social Studies Committee for their hard work preparing for this special day. Also, a very big thank you to our very own Ms. Bowers and Coach Perez who are both teachers on our campus and also Veterans.

We are already making great progress towards our goal! If you have not already done so, please register your child at mybooster.com. Some of our very generous Allen staff have committed to sponsoring a student for the fun run. On Monday during morning announcements, we will randomly select multiple students that have already registered for the Fun Run and those students will receive a sponsor for a donation towards the students' goal. Reminder--all students will be participating in the Fun Run (no registration and no donations required). All students that are registered will receive a small gift. As students raise money they will earn prizes.

Each month we will be sharing Reading and Math challenges for our families to participate in. Please see the link below to see our first installment of our Reading and Math Family Monthly

This month we will focus on the characteristics of a "communicator."

A collaborator is defined as sharing thoughts, ideas and questions while listening to others.

An effective collaborator:

-Clearly and concisely expresses thoughts, feelings, and ideas

-Communicates through oral, written, and nonverbal avenues effectively

-Listens to the ideas of others with the intent to understand

As we will be working with students on being communicators, we also invite you to extend the learning at home. Each week during November, I will link a child friendly video that is connected to being a communicator. I hope that you and your family are able to view these videos together and learn more about being a communicator.
