School Safety Drills This Week at PGHS

Dear Parents and Guardians:

School safety is our number one priority as we serve and educate our students here at Pottsgrove High School. Consequently, during the week of September 3, all Pottsgrove High School students will be taking part in a Stadium Evacuation and Intruder Drill. These two drills will be the next step in our on-going efforts to provide the safest environment possible for our students, staff, and community.

The drill will be supported by our local police departments and will involve students leaving the building and gathering in our predetermined rally points. Our staff will be partnering with local law enforcement to keep our students safe during these drills.

In addition, all of our Physical Education classes will be walking students to the rally points. We do this to familiarize them with the rally point locations.

We are continually training and drilling our staff and students to provide them with the knowledge to react properly in case of an emergency situation. This is just the next phase of that training.

The Pottsgrove School District remains committed to planning for and providing a safe and productive learning environment. On the day of the drills, we will send a notification to all parents and guardians so they are aware that the drill will be taking place. We would recommend that you talk to your children when they come home the day of the drill to see how they are feeling and reassure them that the drill was a positive step toward keeping them safe.

Thank you in advance for the support of our continuing safety and security goals. If you have any questions regarding this email, please don't hesitate to contact me on my cell phone at 610-960-2386.

Sincerely,

Bill Ziegler, Ed.D.

Principal

PSAT Coming to PGHS

We will be administering the PSAT test to all sophomore students on Wednesday, October 16th. The test will begin at 7:30 am and run for approximately 3 hours. The PSAT is an excellent tool for preparation and practice for the SAT. Sophomores will be given practice books in their English classes. Please make sure that your child prepares with these materials prior to the test to maximize his or her results. Also, please remind your child to come prepared with number two pencils and a calculator. Students will not be permitted to use a cell phone or iPod as a calculator.
Again, students in 10th grade will take the PSAT on Wednesday, October 16th.

This is also open to Juniors who are looking to compete in the National Merit Finalists program. To participate in this prestigious program, students must take the PSAT in their Junior Year. Juniors need to pay $17.00 for the exam
