Hillside Family Newsletter
I May 2017 I
Principal's Corner
Dear Hillside Families,
If April showers bring May flowers, let’s hope that May showers bring warm temperatures and a calming influence to the end of the year. State testing is nearing its end, and students have performed admirably. While it is still too soon to see official results, the things we can measure - patience, perseverance, and focus - all point toward eventual success. Regardless of the results, I am proud of the growth achieved by each of our students and the dedication they have shown to their studies, their teachers, and their peers.
The close of the year is also a peak time for students to feel anxiety about school performance. State testing, the dawn of the final card marking, transitions to “the next level,” and parent/student expectations for high performance all combine to leave many students struggling to cope with new emotions. This article offers some simple parent tips and routines for helping students find and maintain balance in their lives. Finding that balance and communicating with kids when they do struggle helps them manage the stress that has increasingly become a part of their social and academic lives. Remember, also, that you have partners at Hillside. From our amazing counseling team to each of our classroom teachers, we each want to support students so they enjoy their youth. We look forward to partnering with you.
