Peak School Library Report
2016-2017
Welcome to this year's library report!
There is no doubt that June in Hong Kong, with or without the torrents of rain, is a busy old month and so we promise to keep this brief! Have a quick flick through to find out what we have been up to, which class borrows the most books, what is the most popular book in the library (you may want to buy it for your collection at home...) and so much more...
What are the kids borrowing?
Stories still rule the roost in the Peak School Library, with Fiction (Chapter Books) being the most popular format for stories, then Picture Books, then Graphic Novels.
The most popular book in the library!
Borrowed 76 times this year.
The most popular picture book.
Borrowed 60 times this year.
The most popular non-fiction book.
Borrowed 49 times this year.
Which class borrowed the most amount of books? [drum roll]........
Another year of increases
- 6% increase in overall borrowing (that's 24,726 books borrowed this year!)
- 17% increase in graphic novel borrowing
- 13% increase in ebook borrowing
- 10% increase in non-fiction borrowing
Visiting authors this year - we were spoiled for choice...
Our lovely library space
We started the year with a brand new workspace in the library, which has been used all year for break out groups, parent meetings and talks, coffee mornings, parent/teacher meetings....you name it, we cater to it! We have also had a significant shift in the way we have organised our collections, with brand new stand alone shelves for our popular graphic novel and popular series collections. We have moved our magazines to our sofa area for easy access for the children and our biographies have been on the move too!
The collections
One of our main focuses this year has been building our ebook collection and we now have 446 books ready for borrowing 24/7. This is a great facility for children looking to borrow from the library during the holidays...
We have also expanded our graphic novel collection significantly as this is the most popular area in the library - but no matter how many books we buy, it is almost impossible for us to keep the books on the shelves, they literally fly off!
Our plans
And next year? We plan to deliver a lot more of the same diverse and fabulous fiction and non-fiction books, continue to develop all of our Collections, concentrating on those growing from student demand, and bring in more lively authors to entertain and spark our literary imaginations. We also would like to allocate some time to focus on our Teacher Resources so that all Peak School Staff have access to an excellent curated collection of resources, which of course will benefit all our students.
