Have you heard about your student's Play 60 Activity Checklist
The K-6 PE team is sending home an activity checklist once a month for your son or daughter.
We have been discussing the importance of getting 60 minutes of physical activity daily with your student(s). As a department, we are collecting data to see how many students are getting daily exercise and what activities they are doing for this.
Please help your student check off activities that they are doing outside of school. We appreciate your help!
Cold Weather Reminder
As colder weather approaches we want to remind you that your child will be going outside in the morning and at noon recess. We hold recess inside only if the temp is below 0, with windchill blow –10, or it’s raining. Warm coats, hats, mittens, snow pants, etc...are a must as the weather turns colder.

The district webpage will include late starts, early outs and cancelations.
It is difficult to measure the severity of a storm in all sections of our school district, therefore the final decision rests with parents as to whether or not to send your child to school during adverse weather conditions or to keep them home. Parents can and have helped by filling out the emergency dismissal procedure form. With this plan in place, both your child and the school know your approved plans ahead of time. It is difficult for your child/children if you call the school with instructions on what they should do in case of an early closing. Our phone lines get tied up and—if there is an emergency call—the call can’t get through. Your child may panic when they can’t get in touch with their parent and they know that no one is at home and/or the door may be locked. There is also a chance that your child may miss the message you left for them. Your cooperation in keeping school telephone lines free during emergencies will be greatly appreciated. Please make arrangements with the school and discuss them with your child so everyone knows what procedure to follow prior to the day of a storm. We would also like to remind you that should school close early there are no Afterschool programs, they are canceled, including Afterschool Enrichment Program and Reading and Math (Targeted Service) clubs.
Minnewaska Area Schools Illness Policy 2017-18
It is hard sometimes to know when a student should stay home from school and when a student should attempt to come to school, even though they may have a mild illness. When your child is ill and not feeling well, please keep them at home. The following information is intended to help with this decision:
1. If a student has a fever of 99º or more, the student should stay home until they have been fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medication.
2. If a student has vomited or had diarrhea, they should stay home until 24 hours after the last episode.
3. If a student has reddened eye/s, drainage from the eye, crusted shut when waking up in a.m, please have student see their physician/primary care provider before sending student to school.
4. If a student doesn't feel well and appears sick looking (pale, cough, sore throat, body aches, lethargic, etc.).
5. For strep throat, pink eye, impetigo, and other infections that are contagious in nature and require an antibiotic, a student must be on the antibiotic for 24 hours before returning to school.
Sincerely-
