Voluntary Irrigation Schedule

Requesting Voluntary Reduction in Irrigation Use:
Like all retail water providers in Texas, the City of Whitehouse has a drought contingency plan that outlines factors that trigger different stages of water restrictions. While we have not reached any thresholds requiring mandatory reductions in water usage, this week we reached a threshold that warrants asking for voluntary compliance to alleviate demand on the water system. Our water supply is sufficient to meet the needs of our community; however we see a significant spike in demand on the weekends when a majority of people water lawns at the same time.
The particular threshold that was met was five consecutive days of 1.2 million gallons of usage (roughly half of our daily pumping capacity – without using an external source). We expect with the continued lack of rain in the forecast and the usual spike in usage over the weekends, the demand on our water system will be significant. If residential and commercial users will help by watering on the specified days and times, it will help prolong or possibly prevent the need to implement mandatory reductions.
Again, the City does have adequate supply to meet all demand needs of the community. The reduction in irrigation is requested to ensure that should any large water main breaks or fires occur, supply can continue to meet all needs of the community without relying on our secondary water supplier.
