Mask Mandate Extended
Students and Families,
Our district continues to feel the impact of COVID-19 throughout our communities. School-based leaders, teachers, and support staff have worked tirelessly to provide safe and healthy learning environments for our students.
During this past week, our school board reviewed data pertaining to the spread of COVID-19 as reported to our schools districtwide. The school district is fortunate to be experiencing a dramatic decrease in the number of students and staff put into quarantine because of exposure to a positive case. The data suggest that school district's ongoing messaging around frequent hand-washing, physical distancing where possible, the use of face coverings, and the increasing use of vaccinations by eligible individuals have all contributed to a decline in the number of students and staff quarantined.
HCPS numbers of quarantined individuals have dropped by 47% since August 23rd. Even more encouraging is that the number of student cases has been reduced by 54% since August 23rd.
Following robust discussion, the school board voted to continue to require facial coverings on all campuses and district facilities for another 30 days, lasting until October 15.
We will continue following our supported mitigation strategies on campus that are recommended by the CDC including hand sanitizer on all campuses and district facilities and encouraging frequent hand washing and social distancing where possible throughout the day. The district will also work with our health partners to provide opportunities for vaccination clinics.
We will continue to work with the Department of Health - Hillsborough and TGH/USF Health to monitor conditions in our community. The school board will revisit this important issue as we continually learn more about the effects the Delta variant is having on our campuses and throughout our area. We will always keep you apprised of the latest information regarding COVID-19 safety protocols.
