Student Drop Off & Pick Up: We Need Your Help!

Families,

The information directly below is being printed and will be handed out to families as they drop off or pick up their students daily. We want to keep all of you safe and hope you can inform any of your family members (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.) who may also help you drop off/pick up your students

-------------

**Parents: stay with your car and allow your student to walk up to their entry door independently--we promise they can do it!

**Please do not leave your car unattended in front of school during morning student drop off--parents stay with vehicles

**Please have your child exit your vehicle on the curbside, not the streetside.

**If you need to cross Washington Street please cross at our crosswalks east or west of school--we have supervisors to help

Recognize--Acknowledge--Extend

Families,

Would you like to recognize a Benson Primary School employee for their efforts? We are so grateful for them. I'd like to recognize the efforts of our school community and encourage you to do the same. Please use this survey that will be available on all of our monthly newsletters to do so. Highlights monthly will be shared with the employee and with their permission--shared in the next month's newsletter.

Milissa Riley, School Social Worker She is such a positive person in the building for all the kids. She is incredibly accessible to parents and kids. She teaches the most important skills to being kind, confident kids and we think she is amazing!

Your Turn: Recognize A Benson Primary Employee

Halloween Parade

Weather permitting--Benson School will be having a Halloween costume parade. Students would walk around the school and we will invite parents to view along the parade route. Halloween informational flyer is attached here. Email with official parade time will be sent in a school email later.

CAP Program: Overview & Parent Night Information

Parents will receive an email with more information. Parent information webinar is scheduled for October 19th. Parents will be emailed a password-protected weblink that will allow them to view presentation students will see at school. CAP stands for child assault prevention and supports our efforts to instruct Erin's Law mandated curriculum. We partner with the YWCA of metro Chicago to delivery programming. Parents will have the opportunity to opt their students out of this unit. This is a virtual event--not in person.

Bullying Prevention Month

OCTOBER IS BULLYING PREVENTION AND AWARENESS MONTH

Please remember to talk with your children about the ill effects of bullying. We are making efforts to help educate our students about bullying and what to do when confronted with a bully or when seeing someone else being bullied. As an example we ask students to STOP, WALK, TALK: Ask them to Stop, Walk away with a friend, and Talk to a trusted adult. We also encourage safe use of online reporting as necessary so we can handle these situations anonymously, if preferred. Families may access our bully report here. On Wednesday, October 20th we will be participating with other schools around the country in a “UNITY” day taking a stand against bullying. On that day students will be invited to wear orange in a show of support.

Student Daily Health Certification

Please remember to complete the daily Teacherease health certification at https://www.teacherease.com/common/Login.aspx every day before 8:00 AM or prior to riding the bus to school. This may also be found on the "Daily Health" page on the District 10 website. More information about on how to self certify can also be found here.

Picture Retake Day

Tentatively scheduled for Monday, October 25th. Picture retakes will be scheduled for the morning--approximately 9am-10:30am.
