Updates from our Principal
Greetings Firebird Nation Families -
Welcome Back! I hope everyone enjoyed their 2-week Fall Break! The additional time for rest, relaxation, and family is always welcomed! We look forward to seeing all of our Firebirds back in the halls starting on Monday, October 25th!
We received word from the Paint Brush Hills Metro District that the road construction around FMS has finished up. There are no longer any detours or different routes needed to travel to and from Falcon Middle. We are also excited that we were able to get our parking lot re-painted over break. This will help with our traffic pattern and how vehicles navigate through our lots. As always, please make sure to use slower speeds and extra caution as you travel around FMS. Students and guests should ONLY cross at designated crosswalks around the school. Also, remember that we want to be good neighbors to our neighboring communities. Please do not park or block any access to these neighborhoods, driveways, etc. We appreciate your help!
As we return, please remember the importance of keeping your student home if they are ill. If students are not feeling well or displaying major symptoms of illness, it is important that they stay home until they are better. We want to help keep FMS as healthy as possible! Our building maintenance teams are continuing to provide extra cleaning and sanitation around the building. Students will continue to clean their desks upon conclusion of the class and staff members conduct additional sanitation of these surfaces during the day as well. We appreciate everyone's help as we all work together through these challenging times.
This next week is exciting as mini course sign ups are here! We look forward to having students sign up for their mini courses this coming Thursday, October 28th. We have linked the course catalog below for students and parents to review prior to sign ups. It is important for students to have multiple courses in mind when they go to sign up. I really appreciate the work of all of our teachers for the incredible course options they have put together for our students! I also appreciate the hard work of our FMS Office Team in putting together the registration process, course catalog, and permissions slips. We are very excited about the return of our signature mini courses at FMS this year!
This second quarter of the year will move by quickly! We only have 4 more weeks until our week long Thanksgiving break is here. Then it will be just 3 weeks until Winter Break arrives. With this quick moving quarter, it is important for students to keep on top of their grades and assignments! Boys Basketball will be competing the first week back from break for their multi-week season. We will then begin tryouts for Girl's Basketball and Wrestling season will start as well. Be watching for more information on these sports soon!
I hope everyone enjoys this last weekend of Fall Break; do something fun! I look forward to seeing Firebirds back on Monday and hearing all about your adventures from break!
Sincerely,
Brian Smith

Volunteer for Mini Course Sign Ups!
We are in need of multiple volunteers to help with our arena scheduling process in the Main Gym. The process runs very smoothly, but having as many parent and community volunteers as possible is extremely helpful! Please use the link to sign up below. We will welcome any time you may be able to give to support this process.
Important Reminders from the Health Room
Please remember...Stay home when you are sick!
The November election is quickly approaching, very soon you will receive ballots in the mail. There are two items on the ballot that directly relate to District 49 and will impact all of our schools. The purpose of this communication is to encourage you to become aware and informed of both things that will affect schools, students, and staff once the final counts come in.
Below are links to information related to Ballot Measure 4A as well as links to our Board of Education Election. Measure 4A will be asking you to approve a tax increase in order to raise compensation for teachers and support staff.
Our hope is you will take the opportunity to learn about the issues in this election.

Halloween Costume Expectations for October 29th...
Halloween Costumes may be worn on Friday, October 29th, as long as the following expectations are being followed:
1. Normal School Dress Code still applies. Students should review the dress code in the student handbook.
2. There can be NOTHING on the face...we have to be able to see their normal face. The only exception is a safety mask due to COVID. This means there can be absolutely NO full covering masks, NO face paint, NO fake blood, NO sunglasses, and NO hoods pulled up over their head.
3. Wigs and hats will be allowed as long as they are part of a costume and do not cover the face. If during class, the hat or wig is a distraction to the learning environment, then it will be taken off for that class period at the request of the teacher.
4. There can be NO weapons of any kind, which also includes anything that looks like or resembles a weapon.
5. We want students to have fun and show school spirit, but the guidelines need to be followed so that students are not asked to call home for a change of clothes.
