Morning Meetings and Parent Tech Help
PARENT ORIENTATION- It was great to see all of our 4th and 5th grade parents on campus for orientation this week! Parent Orientations continue on Tuesday, September 3 for PK-3rd grades. During this night, the teachers will review classroom learning organization and procedures, homework expectations, parent communication methods, and much more. We would ask that this be a parent only night for you to have time with your child’s teachers.
READY, TECH, GO- PARENT HELP DESK
There will be technology staff available to assist with your Skyward Family Access to be able to view your child's grades, attendance, and information on Tuesday, September 3rd from 5:15-6:45. The tech staff will be located in computer lab 401.
· Note from the Cafeteria: Ice Cream will continue being sold each Wednesday. This year our campus ice cream day will be Wednesday. The ice cream will be $1.00.
* MORNING MEETINGS- As our teachers continue to build relationships in the classroom this year our district has added an additional component to support our student's Social and Emotional learning. Each day our teachers will be facilitating a morning meeting time for approximately 15 minutes. Be sure and ask you child about the morning meetings in their own classrooms! The primary goal of morning meetings is to give students a safe environment that:
- provides a sense of trust
- allows all students to feel important
- encourages respectful learning
- helps regulate emotions
- boosts empathy and teamwork
- supports all aspects of learning—academic, emotional, and social
Components of Morning Meetings include:
1. Greeting - As the name suggests, this portion of morning meetings is for students and teachers to greet each other every day. Everyone in the room is included and greeted cheerfully. One method is to provide a tangible item and allow students to pass it around until everyone has been greeted (the person with the item is greeted, then passes it on to someone else).
2. Sharing - During sharing time, each student has the opportunity to share a tidbit about themselves. This could be what they had for breakfast or other sharing. Students are encouraged to listen to everyone's thoughts and ask questions.
3. Activity - This portion of the meeting should include a group activity that every student joins and works on together. Activities should encourage collaboration and reinforce social and/or academic skills.
4. Daily Announcements or Message - Announcements usually come at the end of the meeting and prepare students for the day ahead. Provide a rundown of the day's events (schedule, assignments, lunch menu, etc.) and announce any birthdays or special news if not shared previously.
During our morning meetings we will also focus on our campus core virtues and the Boerne ISD "Great 8 Social-Emotional Skills" which are covered each nine weeks during Year 1: Optimistic Thinking, Self-Management, Goal Directed Behavior, Relationship Skills and in Year 2: Self-Awareness, Personal Responsibility, Decision Making, and Social Awareness.
Morning meetings have been a great addition to our day!
· As a reminder our school day for this year will be 7:35-3:00. The building will open each morning at 7:05 to get ready for the day. Please do not drop off your children before 7:05, as there will not be staff on duty to monitor the students. Thank you as well for your patience and support as we continue to implement new additions for safety to our parent pick up area. Every parent either picking up students from their car or parking to pick up their student will need a KES parent pick up sign. Having your child ride the bus or be picked up in your car are the safest pick up options.
Have a great 3 day weekend!

19-20 Boerne ISD Dress Code Review
On Monday, August 19, 2019, the Board of Trustees adopted the 2019-20 Dress Code with a grace period. Students are expected to adhere to the Board-approved dress code; however, during this transition, staff will work with students to provide guidance and clarity regarding the standards and expectations.
The new dress code provides flexibility to families and respects individuality while offering guidance on clothing selections. The new dress code with side-by-side changes can be found at

Included in the new policy is that shorts will be at mid-thigh length. This length will include a range near mid-thigh. We appreciate your review of the policy and encourage you to reach out and call or email if you have any questions or need additional clarification.
The grace period will end on Tuesday, September 17, 2019.
Thank you for your patience and understanding in as we work together in transitioning to these new standards and to provide a safe, comfortable, and inclusive environment for all of our students.
