All teachers are expected to maintain a RED FOLDER on your desk throughout the year. This will be an emergency lesson plan folder that will be used in the event that you cannot get lesson plans here by 7:30. The RED FOLDERS should be used in emergencies only. Within this folder there should be a scripted lesson, which anyone could easily follow, for each subject you teach. Also, include the following:
class list
daily schedule including special class times and the time you and your partner teacher switch, as well as dismissal times
scheduled bathroom breaks
recess
lunch time
duty assignments (afternoon)
drill procedures
transportation list that shows how your students get home
list of students that check in with the nurse at designated times
times students are pulled from the regular classroom for interventions, special education services or speech
A Message from the Assistant Principal
Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year!
We have had a really great start to our school year at BES! I am so excited about all the wonderful things we have planned this year. This is my third year as an administrator but fourteenth year as an educator in the Blytheville School District. I am humbled to be the Assistant Principal for Blytheville Elementary School. My family are true Chickasaw fans. You will catch us at the majority of the football and basketball games (junior high and high school). We are also very proud to call Blytheville our home and to serve in our community in several capacities - Healing in the Hood, Helping Our Teens Elevate Potential (HOTEP), Daddy Diamond's, SWAG, SWAG Patrol, and Books, Barbers, & Beyond.
My goals for this year are:
1. Continue to challenge our students and staff to be at their best (personal)
2. Make positive connections with students, families and staff (personal)
3. Read a chapter from a professional text every night (professional)
4. Eat healthy and walk every evening (emotional and mental)
5. Develop a new Bible plan as needed (spiritual)
6. Continue to be visible in classrooms and provide actionable feedback for professional learning (PGP goal)
7. Put RTI-B/ABA team in place and hold monthly meetings to reduce office referrals (PGP goal)
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks for all that you do!

Notes from the Counselor
As we continue to implement the PLC model, it is essential for me as the school counselor and teachers to have a positive collaborative relationship. There are many different ways I can support teachers. I hope that we can all work together to meet the needs of our students to improve their academic achievement and emotional health. Here are “The Top Ten Ways School Counselors Can Support Teachers.” If you need to make a student referral for guidance counseling or consultation, you can fill out the Referral for Guidance Counseling Google Form. Reminder, guidance counseling lessons will begin on Monday, where I will be introducing myself to your students and informing them on how I can support them inside and outside of the classroom. Check the schedule to see when your class will be coming.
Notes from the Nurse
Welcome back! If you have a student in your classroom that turned 11 years old before Sept 2019, they are required to receive additional vaccine(s) unless they are otherwise exempt. Please remind parents to check their mail and student backpacks for letters regarding immunizations. Parents will need to call and make an appointment with their doctor or the health department and let the school nurse know once the appointment has been made. Students who have not received their vaccine(s) or have not made an appointment to do so by Aug 30, 2019 will not be allowed to return to school. If there are no appointments available before the deadline, parents should make an appointment for the next available date and call the school nurse with the appointment date and time. Again, this is only for students who have turned 11 years old before Sept 20.

Cafeteria News
Grab and go breakfast will be available starting this week. When students arrive to school late, they will be able to pick up breakfast from the cafeteria and report to class. Please allow students the opportunity to consume breakfast immediately upon their arrival. Also, fresh fruit and vegetable snacks should be available for students starting this week. Snacks must be consumed the day they are distributed. Fruit bags must be returned to the cafeteria each day empty. Please do not return bags with snacks still in them (throw away any leftovers). Fruit cannot be withheld for behavior issues. Availability will depend on the arrival of the truck. We will make an announcement to inform you on the days snacks will be available.

Student Attendance in TAC
All teachers must use TAC to record student attendance.
A student cannot be marked absent from a class until he/she has actually attended the class one time.
The following is the procedure we will use for recording attendance the first two weeks of school.
Monday, August 12 - Friday, August 23
Until the 10th day of school:
If the student has been present for at least one day in your class, use TAC to record student attendance. For students that are listed on your roster and have not shown up in class, please record their name on the attached sheet and keep until the 11th day of school.
Example 1:
If student John Doe attends your class on the first day and does not attend the second day, then he will need to be marked absent in TAC.
Example 2:
If student Jane Doe does not attend your class on the first or second day, you will write her name on the attached sheet. Once she does start attending you will write the date she first attended in the column labeled Date 1st Attended on the sheet. You will keep this sheet until the 11th day of school. You will then record any further absences in TAC since she has started attending your class.
Example 3:
If student Jack Doe has not attended your class but is listed on your roster you will not mark him absent in TAC, but you will record his name on the attached sheet and keep until the 11th day of school.
Monday, August 26: 11th day of school:
If a student is still listed on your roster in TAC and has not attended class at all, make sure the student's name is listed on the attached sheet and turn this sheet into your building office. This will allow the student registration staff to drop students that have not shown after 10 days and record the correct first date of attendance for those students that started coming to school after Aug. 12.
Please be aware that the roster you see in TAC is the same as the official roster in eSchool. If you have a student attending your class that is not listed on your roster, or if you have a student that is listed on your roster that has not been attending your class it is your responsibility to let your school office know this so the problem can be corrected.
Attendance for Staff
All staff members are required to contact an administrator in the event of an absence from school. Leaving a message does not constitute notification. You must speak with either Mrs. Walker (870-532-7866) or Ms. Adelowo (870-740-1526). If at all possible, contact should be made by 6:30 A.M. so that arrangements can be made to have your position covered for the day. In the event of a planned absence, a Request for Absence form should be completed and submitted to the office for administrative approval. After the absence is approved, the principal/designee should secure an approved substitute for the days needed. Detailed lesson plans must be provided for your substitute teacher.
*Remember, there is no substitute for a teacher!!!
If you have been absent from work and did not complete a request for absence form, you will need to sign a Return Slip. Return slips are available in the office or with the attached link. Your prompt attention is required.
Staff Instructional Day
Staff are required to be present from 7:40 - 3:40 each day.

All About the Principal
It is with great pleasure for me to serve in the role of Principal at Blytheville Elementary School. My educational career began during the 2001-02 school year as a Special Education teacher at Blytheville Middle School. Since that time, I’ve also taught at Blytheville High School, and Blytheville Charter School & ALE. My administrative career began as an Assistant Principal at Blytheville High School in 2008. After serving 3 years in that capacity, I became Principal of Central Elementary School, which consolidated with Blytheville Intermediate School and became what is now known as Blytheville Elementary School.
I married my college sweetheart, Curtis, who is a Deputy Prosecuting Attorney for the State of Arkansas. My children, Ryley and McKinley are in 6th and 4th grades respectively. I am actively involved in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. where I serve as Chapter President. I am a Master Principal Phase III Graduate and 2019 graduate of the Blytheville Leadership Institute. I also serve on the Celebrate Maya Board of Directors as well as volunteer in other capacities within the community.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family attending sporting events (basketball and football), WWE Wrestling, and Comic Con. My interest in music ranges from Gospel, to R&B, and 90s Rap.
This year, a few of my personal goals are to be more personable, visible, and supportive as a school leader. I will diligently work to ensure the academic, social, and emotional needs of ALL of our students are met as well as continue my own professional growth and learning.
