Welcome to Duncanville High School!
Welcome to the beginning of the 2019-2020 school year at Duncanville High School!
It is with great pleasure and enthusiasm that I write this message of introduction to you as the new Executive Principal of Duncanville High School. I am truly honored to rejoin the Duncanville community, which has already given me such a warm welcome! In just the few interactions I've had with staff, students and families so far, it's become abundantly clear that this school is a unique and special place.
I have been dedicated to the field of education for more than nineteen years with a specific concentration with working with secondary students. My most recent administrative experience has been shaped by three years of successful leadership as the Principal of Cedar Hill High School, and three years as Principal of Byrd Middle School in Duncanville.
This year has begun with some new staff members to fill spaces left by staff members whom retired or took positions at other schools. We had the opportunity to hire some outstanding new teachers and administrators, some having prior years of experience and some are brand new. All of them have already had a positive impact and are demonstrating through their words and deeds that they are here for our students!
As we begin the school year tomorrow, I want you know that I intend to keep you well informed throughout the school year. A strong partnership between parents and staff is crucial to student success. On Sunday evenings you will receive an email from me with the goal of preparing for the upcoming weeks and making sure you are aware of school happenings. Since I won’t be able to cover everything in an email, I encourage you to frequently check the master calendar on our school website.
We will spend this week getting the students up to speed with policies and procedures, and while this occurs we will start the process of balancing classes in our students’ schedules. It is our goal to keep class changes to a minimum, however changing student schedules first and foremost to fix errors and balance classes is priority number one.
Our mantra for 2019-2020 is “We are Champions”. We are more than occasional winners; we are champions. “Contenders practice until they get it right. Champions practice until they can’t get it wrong.” Our goal is Academic Championships, and we will practice until we can't get it wrong!
Respectfully,
Michael McDonald

ID’s
Due to technical issues, we did not issue all IDs during schedule pick-up to students in grades 10-12. I would like to personally apologize for not communicating that information out sooner to parents. We will allow scholars to take ID pictures during the first couple of weeks of school. We have notified transportation, as in the near future, your scholar will be required to have an ID to ride the bus. You will be notified when we will transition to ID to ride. IDs are a part of dress code. Please ensure your scholar has their ID affixed to the upper right or left corner of their shirt, making it easily visible.
Dress Code Guidelines
Dress Code
We expect all scholars and parents to be familiar with and adhere to the district dress code. Parents, please assist us in preparing your scholar for post-secondary options by helping us to effectively manage the expectation regarding dress code. Scholars will be provided information and expectations regarding policy during the first week of school. If the principal determines that a student's dress or grooming violates the school's dress code, the student typically will be given the opportunity to correct the problem at school where possible. Repeated violations will result in disciplinary consequences under the Student Code of Conduct.

DHS is a closed campus. Scholars are required to remain on campus from the start of school until the end of school. Scholars are not permitted to leave campus for lunch.
We will not permit scholars to receive outside lunch deliver from delivery services such as Uber Eats, Grub Hub, Door Dash, etc.
We welcome you to come and eat lunch with your scholar. Please contact your scholar’s grade level administrator at least 24 hours in advance and ensure you are prepared with the proper identification to receive a visitor’s pass. You will need your ID or Driver’s License. Please only bring lunch for your scholar.
