Kids' Book Collection for Vickery
Spring cleaning? Why not put your new or gently used children’s books into the hands of young readers in the Vickery area? Studies show that kids who read at least six books over the summer are much more likely to stay on target for reading development. The Library is collecting new or gently used children’s books to donate to Vickery Meadow Youth Development Foundation (VMDYF). Now through May 19, you can drop off books at the PCBC Library or at the reception desks in the Activities Building, the Commons and the Narthex. Contact Emily Martin, elmartin@pcbc.org 214-860-3993 for more information.

We will be at Concord Church for our next Ladies Book Brunch, 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 1. Choose a book to read (when you sign up online) and we’ll discuss it in small groups. Come for light refreshments and plenty of fellowship as PCBC and Concord women get to know one another better.

The Color of LIfe by Cara Meredith
James Meredith was the first African-American to enroll at the University of Mississippi in 1962, inaugurating a new wave of the battle for civil rights. Cara Meredith, a white woman raised in Oregon, is married to his son. Her story is a memoir of her life and love in a mixed-race family. Besides Cara's account of her personal life, she weaves in little-known history about race relations in the United States and she challenges readers -- especially Christians -- to rethink their attitudes about loving our neighbors and working for social justice.
Kill the Spider: Getting rid of what's really holding you back by Carlos Whittaker
Carlos Whittaker compares cobwebs to the things in our lives that entangle us: addictions, prejudices, insecurities. The cobwebs can be small and annoying or huge and debilitating. Don't just brush away the cobwebs, says Whittaker: Kill the Spider that's causing them. Amazingly candid and softened with humor, Whittaker describes his own experience of going deep into his psyche to identify his spiders. A lifelong committed Christian and worship leader, Whittaker encourages even the most ashamed and traumatized to allow the love of Christ to sweep away the cobwebs and kill the spider.
Long Way Gone by Charles Martin
If you're longing for a good, juicy novel, that's romantic but not cloying, Charles Martin is the author for you. Long Way Gone is the story of Cooper O'Connor, a musician who has experienced the highest highs and lowest lows of a virtuoso in the world of popular country music. Starting as a pianist for his father's tent preaching in Colorado, Cooper jettisons his past in search of his on fame and fortune as a singer-songwriter in Nashville. His own stratospheric rise and fall are paralleled by Daley Cross, the girl who captures and keeps his heart. Descriptive and engaging, the novel is a lush retelling of the story of the Prodigal Son. It’s also available as an audiobook on OverDrive.
Leadership Wisdom for All Generations by Jennifer Wimbish, Ph. D.

Her new book is a thoughtful, systematic and winsome compilation of insights she has learned from great leaders in her personal experience. Organized around 48 principles, Dr. Wimbish walks through her years as a child, a young adult, a student, an educator, a mother, and most recently, as president of Cedar Valley College. Dig Deeper
“Power: The Life of King David” will be the April/May sermon series. Some of the best stories of the Bible are in the books of 1 and 2 Samuel. This series will delve into the different aspects of power that drove and led David through his brilliant ascent, his tragic descent, and his steadfast devotion to God. We have put together a Booklist with titles in our Library that will help you dig deeper:
As you keep up with your daily reading in our Year of the Bible, you might want to explore each book in more depth.
