Student Spotlight

We are so excited to share our first Student Spotlight of the year! Siblings Obada (Grade 4) & Huda (Grade 2) created a model of a stormwater system they designed as part of the GSK and U of WI Science in the Summer program. The system's goal was to protect a playground from rainwater. They also designed a bridge to be used along a hiking trail to cross a river. Huda and Obada are proud of their achievements and so are we!

Is your 'STEMlet' up to something exciting? We'd love to feature him/her in an upcoming newsletter! Share with

Lunch Update

As you were notified of on August 30th, the School District of Waukesha will be returning to the free lunch for all program for the 2021-22 school year. Students will be charged only for 2nd entrees and/or a la carte milk. If your child packs a lunch and wants milk, you will need to send 40 cents or make sure s/he has money on his/her lunch account. It is still recommended that qualifiying families complete a Free and Reduced Lunch application, as this will ensure that qualified students continue receiving free lunch at the start of the 2022-23 school year. Click here to go to the application page.

With this change, there will now be two entree options each day. Teachers will poll students the day before to get an estimate of how many of each lunch will be needed for the following day. For now, the choices are the first two listed each day on the September Menu. If choices change, we will notify families.

Health Room Headlines

Happy Friday! We made it through our first week - huzzah!! It has been fantastic to see so many smiling faces back in the building. Although it has been a short week, I am sure all of your kiddos are exhausted. So before you head off to enjoy the long weekend, I want to share the biggest Health Room Headline with you - the updated Too Sick For School Guidelines!! (Click link to view) Allow this to be your "Jiminy Cricket" so to speak as you decide whether your student is well enough to go to school and be around other students.

I know there have been many questions regarding Covid-19, isolations, and if parents would know if their child(ren) had been in close contact with a positive case...

- As you will see in the Guidelines, Covid-19 is listed under respiratory illnesses. "If your child is having symptoms of COVID-19 (fever or chills, cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, muscle or body aches, headache, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea), contact your provider for further guidance. If your child tests positive, they must be isolated for 10 days from symptom onset."

- We are NOT quarantining siblings, family members, or close contacts. Only positive cases will be isolated.

- If there is a positive case in your child's class, you will be notified. However, to protect the privacy of all, there will be no names distributed. As a reminder - our school only had 14 positive cases during the entire school year last year. Most of them were siblings and family members who did not / could not isolate themselves from each other. This means that I am hoping that you don't receive many of these notifications. :)

Thanks to all of you for your grace and kindness! I know that we will work together as a STEM family to keep our school and students healthy. As always, I am here to help - please reach out if you need me!
