Principal's Message
Dear Families,
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Ashley Coughlin and I am honored and humbled to be Berkeley Lake Elementary’s newly appointed principal. Berkeley Lake Elementary prides itself on creating an environment where kids come first and I felt that from the moment I walked in the building. I am excited to partner with the staff and community to ensure our rich history of academic success and positive school culture continues.
I am a proud product of Gwinnett County schools and a graduate of North Gwinnett High School. After receiving my bachelor’s degree from Georgia State University, I returned to GCPS to start my career as a fourth grade teacher at Suwanee Elementary. I continued my career as a second and fifth grade teacher in the North Gwinnett cluster before joining the Duluth community at BB Harris Elementary as their Local School Technology Coordinator and then assistant principal where I proudly served in that role for nine years.
When I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family. My husband, Wil, and I will be celebrating 15 years of marriage this April. We are the proud parents of two children, Lillian (11) and Jude (8). We enjoy family movie nights, traveling, and attending after school events for both of our children.
As principal, I believe all students should feel connected and valued within our building. When students are known and engaged, we can better meet their individual needs and maximize their learning experience to help them reach their true potential. I feel lucky to have landed at Berkeley Lake because I know the staff holds these same values. I look forward to working together to ensure our students have the best opportunities for success in elementary school and beyond. My door is open and feedback is always welcome. Please do not hesitate to call, email, or schedule an appointment. I am so happy to be at Berkeley Lake where kids come first!
Sincerely,
Ashley Coughlin

Now through - March 10: Educational Effectiveness Survey for Parents (EES)
A key improvement strategy calls on organizations to study the user experience. Therefore, it makes sense to include our students and parents in the work we are doing to improve our schools. The Educational Effectiveness Survey (EES) measures what students in grades 4-12 and their parents/guardians think about their school experience. Our 4th and 5th grade students have already taken the survey during their tech special time, and we are now asking parents/legal guardians to take the survey. It will be available through March 10. The link to the survey will be sent out via email from the county.
Additional information about the surveys can be found here.
Through March 10th - Recorder Sales
From Mr. Green, Music teacher: Recorder sales will stop on Friday, March 10. If children would like to purchase a recorder, they are $6. The nicer bags that hold the recorders are $2, and cleaning rods are $1. All of those items will be removed from the school store and unavailable after Friday, March 10.
Through March 10: Spread the Love Donation Drive
Lets use this season of love to spread some love and help others that are in need. Donations can be dropped off in marked donation bins that are located in the cafeteria. Note: This drive has been extended to March 10th, even though the flyer below shows March 3rd as the deadline.
Items Left in Lost & Found Will Be Donated on Friday, March 10
Our Lost & Found is overflowing! We are marking items with green tags, and on March 10th anything that is still in the Lost & Found with a green tag will be donated. Please have your child look for lost items before then or feel free to stop by school to look.

March is Music in Our Schools Month
Music in schools give positive experiences to millions of students across the country, and we especially would like to recognize this during the month of March. GCPS does a tremendous job of supporting the music and arts in all of the schools, and my goal at Berkeley Lake Elementary is to balance music instruction with fun activities; to make the learning relevant and enjoyable. Behind the scenes, I am always working on making sure that the students are moving, creating, and that we are maximizing our time with activities that will challenge the students. Furthermore, I often try to pull from curriculum that classroom teachers might be working toward , whether that be historical events, language concepts, or even math concepts like coins and money lessons for the younger students. My goal is to support each grade level to the best of my ability. Thank you for all of your support of the music program at our school.
