Message from Mr. Romeo

Greetings from GES!

Students and staff had the chance to enjoy a video celebration of the Gainfield Gathering yesterday. Congratulations to our October TRACKS Award winners!

The next few weeks will be busy ones at 307 Old Field Road. Be sure to read our newsletter to keep up with the exciting events that are scheduled!

Sincerely,

Jon Romeo

Principal

October Gainfield Gathering

This week provided an opportunity for our school community to come together (virtually) for the October Gainfield Gathering. Check out the video below to see our math focused celebration!

Food Drive Update

To our Gainfield students and families-

Many thanks for the donations of food items for our Southbury Food Bank. As you can see, it was a great success! Knowing that our contributions go directly to our own Southbury families, friends, and neighbors warms our hearts and fills them with gratitude. We are thankful for our Gainfield family.

Socktober Update

Thanks to all of the Gainfield families for supporting the Socktober sock drive! We are currently at 794 pairs of socks!

Next week is our last week to collect and we are so close to our goal of 1,000 pairs.

Thanks to Mrs. Schwenger and Mrs. Arsenian for coordinating this project.

GES Dismissal Procedures

With fewer families coming to Car Rider Pick Up this year, we'll be making the following change to our dismissal procedures:

Beginning Monday, October 18th, Car Rider Pick Up will begin at 3:25 p.m. (instead of 3:20 p.m.). We're hopeful the extra five minutes of learning time will be productive for students and teachers!

Oct. 25th - Pumpkins with Personality

Students in all grades are invited to participate in the Pumpkins with Personality contest in which pumpkins are transformed into a favorite book character!

Click the document below for additional details!

Oct. 28th - JACK-O-LANTERN JUBILEE

Gainfield School is hosting a Jack-O-Lantern Jubilee on Thursday, October 28th.

See the attachment below for details!

Oct. 29th - Gainfield Kindergarten Halloween Parade

Among the treasured traditions at Gainfield School is the annual Kindergarten Costume Parade on Halloween.

Weather permitting, this year's parade will take place on the blacktop out back on Friday, October 29th at 10:15 a.m.

Families of kindergarten students are invited to enjoy the parade in person. (If the weather doesn't cooperate, we'll conduct the parade indoors and send families a link for viewing virtually).

Please note: The special treat of wearing a costume at school is reserved for the youngest members of our school community. We ask that students in grades one through five do not wear or bring halloween costumes to school.

Nov. 3 - Connecticut Kid Governor Election Bus Tour

Gainfield School has been selected to host a stop on the Connecticut Kid Governor's Statewide Election Rally Bus Tour!

The bus tour will be stopping at GES on November 3rd to meet with students to build excitement around the Connecticut Kid Governor program, the Statewide Election and candidates for Kid Governor, and the importance of voting.

Nov. 8th, 9th, 10th - Parent - Teacher Conferences

Fall Conferences are being held on November 8th, 9th, and 10th for elementary school students. Each of these days are scheduled as "Early Dismissal Days" with students leaving school at 1:00 p.m.

In keeping with Superintendent Smith’s guidance, we are encouraging families to attend conferences virtually when possible to mitigate any COVID exposure risk.

  • For families who may have opted for in person conferences and would like to switch to a virtual conference, simply email us at GESoffice@region15.org and we will make arrangements with your child(ren)’s teacher(s).

  • For families that haven’t specified whether they would like an in-person conference or virtual conference, we will proceed with plans for virtual conferences unless we hear otherwise.

Your partnership during these trying times has played a key role in the success of our school community and is very much appreciated.

Nov. 11th - Veterans Day @ GES

As many of you know, Veterans Day is a pretty big deal at Gainfield School. Our students and staff look forward to this annual celebration to pay tribute to men and women who have served in our armed forces.

This year's school visitor restrictions create a bit of a challenge in terms of our Veterans Day Celebration, but nothing we can't overcome.

We are working to compile a list of veterans who are interested in a "virtual" visit to a classroom on Thursday, November 11th. The visits would be conducted via Zoom and last about 15-20 minutes.

If you are a veteran, or have a veteran in your immediate or extended family, and are interested in joining a classroom virtually on Veterans Day, please email GESOffice@Region15.org with your contact info. We'll get back to you to make arrangements for your "virtual" classroom visit.

Nov. 19th - GES PTO Holiday Fair

The Gainfield PTO's Holiday Fair will be held on Friday, November 19th!

During the fair, students can shop for holiday gifts for their friends and family members. Gifts range from .25 to $15.00.

Message from the Gainfield PTO

GES Holiday Fair

We are less than 4 weeks away from the GES Holiday Fair and we're still looking for craft donations. We want to make sure there are enough gifts for all the little shoppers! Check out the sign up for some ideas and e-mail Kristen with any questions: kristenlciccone@gmail.com

Stock the Staff Lounge

We're going to surprise the GES staff with a fully stocked staff lounge in a couple of weeks - just in time for conferences! A big thanks to all that have already donated and don't worry, there's still time if you'd like to contribute. A pack of gum, a case of seltzer or a box of k-cup coffee to keep 'em smiling - it all helps! Just use this sign up. Thank you!

Square One Art

Our Square 1 Art fundraiser is underway! Paper and instructions were sent home this week. Students can check out the showcase near the Main Office for art ideas and to see what products they could get featuring their creativity!! Once their masterpieces are ready they can be easily uploaded. Checkout this video for how: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uex0_ngfMec. For questions about Square 1 Art, please contact Linda Novellino at lcnovellino@gmail.com
