Some important information for this week....

Book Fair

It's Book Fair week! A huge thank you to Ms. Scott who is organizing and running it this year. Grade 5's and 6's will be able to make purchases on Wednesday, Grades 3 and 4 will make purchases on Thursday, and our Kindergarten - Grade 3 students will be able to go down on Friday. In addition, the book fair will also be open late on Wednesday until 6:30pm. Please feel free to drop by between 3:20pm and 6:30pm for any additional purchases.

Terry Fox

Those toonies for Terry are quickly coming in. Please feel free to send in more if you would like.:) Many classes have already met their 50% participation rate in order to choose one item that Mrs. Sampson has to wear on the run day. Please help us contribute to this great cause!

Edsby tip

Thank you to all the parents who have signed up for Edsby. This is the school's main form of communication with parents, along with our website, Twitter and Instagram. Please check back frequently for updates on your child's homepage, as well as on the main school banner. If we can do anything to improve our communication tools, please just let us know. If you're experiencing any issues in getting on to Edsby, please let your child's teacher or Mrs. Sampson know and we'll find a solution for you.

Pizza Dinner and Open House

Thank you to our School Council for organizing the Pizza Dinner for next Monday, September 23rd, before our Open House. A reminder that pizza will be served in the back yard area from 6pm - 6:45pm (thank you for all your pre-orders!) and then the classrooms will be open from 6:45pm - 7:30pm. We look forward to seeing you there!

On-going Parking Conundrum

As a reassurance to everyone, we are aware that parking can be quite challenging for all at Kawartha Heights. Last week, the Peek at the Week focused on asking parents, especially those dropping off for day care, to please park on the street, as the lot in front of the school is STAFF ONLY. This week - let's focus on the back parking lot. This is a GREAT place to drop off and pick up your children! However, please be aware that there is only parking on ONE side of the lot - the west side, closest to the tree line. The line of fencing closest to the playground is not a good spot to park or wait in your car, as others cannot get in and out of parking spots when cars are there. Please see the pictures below for more information. Thank you for helping us keep our kids safe and try to do what we can with the limited parking that we have.

Survey Monkey Feedback

Thank you to all the families who provided feedback to us around some initial start up questions. We appreciate your thoughts and will look to incorporate your ideas as much as we can. Please look for more opportunities to provide more formal "survey monkey" feedback in the future - but feel free to get in touch with Mrs. Sampson any time you have ideas on how to make our amazing school even better.

Question 1: Share one thing about Kawartha Heights P.S. that makes you proud.

  • great teachers and staff
  • warmth of teachers and staff and high quality education
  • innovative teaching methods
  • warm and friendly staff who put children's best interests first
  • our wonderful School Council
  • the involvement and communication between staff and families

Question 2: Do you have any ideas for our school that you would like to share?

  • starting Core French in Grade 1 (unfortunately this is a board, not a school decision)
  • ensuring parents understand what is being taught and where their child is at
  • more involved parents on School Council
  • ongoing communication between school and home (this is a focus for us too!)
  • more book fairs
  • more use of Edsby (we're on it!)
  • composting

Question 3: What ways can we best include you in our happenings at Kawartha Heights?

  • we're happy to volunteer
  • electronic communication works best - please post weekly
  • regular communication and newsletters
  • communication notes and Edsby are wonderful
  • Edsby, Twitter, newsletters, email....share, share, share!

Big picture

Just one more thing.....

One of the things we've been working on with our students, is taking a Mindful minute in the morning before we start our day. A minute of calm, deep breathing and reflection can get the day off to a great start. Why not try this at home at the end of the day as well?
