Hello Hillcrest Families,


I would like to take this space to express my gratitude to an under-recognized member of your child's educational team - YOU! I am so grateful for the support our students, staff, and school receives from Hillcrest families. Hillcrest is made better because of our active, involved, and supportive parents and families.


  • Thank you for being actively involved in your child's education.
  • Thank you for attending conferences last month.
  • Thank you for supporting our book fair and our fall fundraiser.
  • Thank you for donating Halloween costumes.
  • Thank you for sponsoring classrooms on popcorn day.
  • Thank you for supporting our canned food drive this month.
  • Thank you for supporting and modeling our school's expected behaviors.
  • Thank you for helping with homework and ensuring your child gets a good night's rest.


Finally, I want to give special acknowledgment and gratitude to our family members who have served or are currently serving in the military and wish all our students, staff, and families a relaxing and gratitude-filled Thanksgiving break.

Holiday Food Drive is Underway!

Giving back to our community is one of the foundations of Hillcrest and Purposefull People Program. Help us make the holidays a season of giving for patrons of the North Whidbey Help House. Please join us in making a donation of non-perishable food items during the Hillcrest "Fill the Bus" Holiday Food Drive! Although any canned or boxed items are accepted and appreciated, some of the most needed items are pasta, rice, tuna, canned vegetables, canned stew, ravioli, pork & beans, macaroni and cheese, peanut butter, jelly, and soups. Families can send in donations with our students or drop off donations at the Hillcrest office through Nov. 22, 2022. Thank you so much for your support of our school and community!

Need A Holiday Food Basket?

The North Whidbey Help House will distribute food baskets for Thanksgiving and Christmas to families in need. Holiday baskets include a full-size turkey and all the trimmings for you to prepare a memorable holiday meal! If you would like a basket for Thanksgiving and/or Christmas, please email Emily Southwick, school counselor, with your child's first and last name and the number of people in your household. Please submit Thanksgiving requests no later than Nov. 13, 2022, and Christmas requests no later than Dec.11, 2022.

Help Us Celebrate Your Military Family

During the month of November, Hillcrest is pleased to honor both veterans and military families. To this end, we have a unique opportunity to celebrate students' family members who have served or are currently serving our country in the United States military.



We would be honored to display a hard-copy photo or student drawing of Hillcrest students with their military parents. These will be displayed in our main hallway alongside our Month of the Military Family banner. The "Proud Military Kid" form was sent home with your child, or you may download and print one here. Military family submissions will be accepted throughout November.


We truly appreciate the service and commitment of military members and their families and are especially mindful of the determination and strength of the military child. Thank you for helping us to honor all of you.

WINTER WEATHER AND SCHOOL CLOSURES

We pride ourselves on getting students to and from school safely. When weather, road, or school conditions result in a schedule change, we inform families of one of the following changes. Keep in mind that some areas of the district experience more severe weather and driving conditions than others. School closures and schedule changes are districtwide, even if your neighborhood is not severely impacted. If your residential area has hazardous road conditions, please do not attempt to drive to school and notify your school of your situation. As a reminder, no notifications will be issued if schools operate on a normal schedule.
