Behind the Stripes

This week we are honoring our Girls' Wrestling State Qualifiers as Athletes of the Week! These six young women competed at districts a few weeks ago, giving the program its first state qualifiers in its two-year history.
Those that qualified for state are Sophomore Maelynn Sundlie, Senior Clarice Wheeler, Sophomore Adi Hoelzle, Senior Tori Dunn, Junior Alyvia Myers and Senior Cami Cazier.
"For these six girls to perform at such a high level under a tremendous pressure, in only their second year in the sport, was extremely impressive and certainly a resemblance of all their hard work," OHS Girls' Wrestling Head Coach Tod Sundlie said.
Congrats ladies!
This week we are honoring our Boys' Wrestling State Qualifiers as Athletes of the Week! These 10 young men competed at districts over the weekend, helping lead the team to its third consecutive district title as well as qualifying for state themselves.
Those who qualified for state include individual champions, Sophomore Damien Moseley, Senior Braxton Strick, and Senior Brock Sundlie as well as Junior Johnny Williams, Senior Peyton Greer, Sophomore Keaton Hurst, Senior Lucas Campbell, Sophomore Caden Harrington, Senior Levi Maskrod, and Junior Daniel Laney.
"The boys team really embraced the challenge of Districts this year. Most of our kids wrestled above their seeds, some beat kids they haven't beat before and that was fun to watch," OHS Head Wrestling Coach Tod Sundlie said. "They certainly have put in the work, and it was fun to watch them believe in that and have some success. We are still looking to improve this week, make some adjustments, and wrestle our best at the State Championships this weekend."
Congrats guys!
This week OHS Junior Ayla Hulbert has been selected as Artist of the Week! Ayla is one of OHS's most talented fashion designers evening finishing second in Nation at the FCCLA Fall Conference Fashion Sketch competition last year. Fashion Design Teacher Lexy Mcnew said Ayla's talent is fun to watch and she's a pleasure to have in class.
"Ayla is such a dedicated student. She came to me last year as a sophomore in my Fashion Design and Construction class and blew me away with her talent, knowledge of fashion and incredible interest and willingness to learn," McNew said. "She takes any opportunity given to her and works hard to make sure that all details are given the attention they deserve. I am thankful that Ayla found her way into the Design and Fashion Pathway and know she will continue to amaze us all with her design philosophy and raw talent!"
Ayla said she is honored to be recognized and thinks its cool that fashion design is being recognized more.
"Fashion is unique in the sense that it is one of the few arts that allows people to be the canvas," she said. "We have the opportunity to wear and experience this art firsthand in our everyday lives. That is why I have an enormous amount of love and respect for it. If shown the proper admiration, fashion can truly be the most powerful representation of any individual."
Congrats Ayla!
Meet Coach Corey Roy!
Corey Roy is currently the strength and condition coach at Ozark High School helping athletes of all sports train on and off season. This is Roy's second year at Ozark but he has been in education for 28 years. Recently the National High School Strength Coaches Association announced that Roy had been named Regional Coach of the Year. This award is given annually to a High School Strength and Conditioning Coach in recognition of their coaching achievements and passion for the profession.
"It's very humbling for sure," Roy said. "I was very excited to see it when it came out. It's a great recognition of your hard work and time and the commitment that you put in, but if it weren't for our students and coaches buying into it there's nothing I can do, its all them that have put the work in."
Thanks Coach Roy for all you do and congrats on this well deserved award!
